Like the leaves in your tea Or the cork in your wine! It’s a lady’s wink, a poet’s rhyme, A train door open just in time, It isn’t just some handsome stranger’s line - it’s a sign.
“I always try to find the truth of the material, the truth of the moment,” the Illinois-born Rapp, 44, says by phone from an “If/Then” tour stop in St. Louis. “I don’t condescend to the characters I play. I try to find the humanity in them. And I don’t try to fall into the trap of trying to make them likable if they do despicable things.“
“So it’s been really cool to explore the nature of that on such a glandular level with this character and these lives. There are very, very different outcomes in both of the story lines for Lucas, so I feel like I get to eat a pretty full meal every night.”
And because Lucas was written specifically for him, Rapp got some insight into himself — and into how others perceive him.
“There are certainly things that are pretty directly resonant for me,” he acknowledges. “I tend to be pretty idealistic and passionate about the things I believe in. I feel like I’m less so as I’ve gotten older and mellower, but certainly when I was younger I was a lot more self-righteous about things and less forgiving of other people’s points of view. So I could identify with that aspect of Lucas.”

Originally from Colombia, Dr. Porras Corredor came to the US to follow a dream of being a biomedical engineer. After obtaining a BS, MS, & PhD in the field, her lab now focuses on using engineering to study how microbes cause diseases in humans.
She also actively works to share the benefits of microbes through her crocheted #sciart in English and Spanish online (@anaerobias ), through her teaching as a professor at @UFBME and through her outreach with Clubes de ciencia (@CdeC_col).
Dr. Porras Corredor is such a fierce advocate for multicultural/lingual communication that in addition to co-founding @LatinxInBME, the first @storycollider event hosted all in spanish was thanks to her efforts as an #IfThen ambassador. Thanks for all you do Dr. Porras Corredor! .
