yknow ever since people realized tumblr isnt dead and have decided to flock here from twitter and tiktok ive seen a huge influx of people in fandom spaces who dont reblog anything. at all.

like, i used to have an art blog with 340 followers. not a ton but not a small amount either given how this website works with creators. and in my experience back then even the ones who only left likes still reblogged other things or at least posted their own stuff. literally the only empty blogs were clearly bots.

but on this New art blog, i’ve had so many people with fandom-specific headers and icons with actual usernames as urls and some kind of title or description, but have. Nothing. no posts. all they do is like things. and it’s always public, too. their following list and their likes list.

and honestly all it makes me think is that these people are New and also don’t know how tumblr works. how likes don’t give exposure. not even in a “oh, i know it doesn’t give exposure, but i’m still going to reblog anyways” way, but in a genuine honest to god straight up doesn’t realize tumblr likes don’t work like twitter’s.

PLEASE please if you’re from tiktok or twitter or whatever please reblog people’s art both fandom and original if you like it!! and maybe actually pad out your blog’s content in some way so people won’t potentially see you as a bot and block you.

REBLOG ARTIST’S WORK. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY THEY GET ANY ATTENTION ON THIS WEBSITE OH MY GOD. PLEASE. I BEG of you

WAIT THEY’RE REAL PEOPLE?! I’ve blocked several accounts so far because it was just “blanks space” and I assumed it was a bot.

FOLKS if you’re new, please, please, this is not like Twitter, Instagram and TikTok. Reblogging is the way to go. This is how we network on here. This is how you make mutuals. This is how you share new stuff with others.

You are also:

  • Encouraged to add your thoughts to the post
  • Engage in conversation freely
  • Express yourself in the tags if you don’t want to write in the post
  • In fact, write a god damn essay in the tags - we old members will read it, I promise - the limit on tags per post is insane anyway
  • Reblog the same thing as many times as you like. Like every time you see it, and you want to reblog it because it brings you joy - go for it!

1. You are responsible for your own media experience.

2. There is such a thing as a healthy level of avoidance towards topics that make you feel unwell or even (in a real-life clinical definition of the term) trigger you - but you are the one to actively take care of what you view.

3. Avoiding does not mean policing others.

4. You have no right to tell artists to censor themselves - you may criticize what others do, you may dislike it, that’s fine - but actively asking for censorship when you could easily unfollow or block a person just makes you look incompetent in your use of the internet.

5. Do not give people on tumblr or /any/ website the responsibility for your emotional well-being. Because these people do not even know you so no, you have no right to ask them to take care of you.

6. Content creators are not your parents and owe you nothing, not even a breakdown on why their content isn’t problematic. You don’t get to demand a dissertation denouncing any and everything unhealthy in a piece you don’t like. Move on.

7. Tagging is a nicety but not an obligation. You can message people, politely, and ask them to tag things, and many people will, but understand that it’s their blog and they aren’t obliged to say yes. Unfollow and block when you need to. Circling back to number 1, you are responsible for curating your own experience.

8. Don’t be a jerk. Remember at the end of the day, there are actual living, breathing people behind each screen name. Don’t say anything you wouldn’t say to someone’s face in real life.

I cannot stress enough how important it is to remember this.

I have a beef with plagiarisers.

While searching google for beef in anime, I stumbled upon something someone made in pinterest - with the photo of the Roast Beef Don I made. (You can see it in my blog header.)

Now, of course I don’t have problems with people sharing my stuff, and would be happy if you do. Pinterest, when used normally, has an option where the link to the original image appears under the photo. Gifs and screencaps that I make I also consider free-for-all under the fair use terms of the anime. (Though I wish I understood the meme my quiche gif is currently being used in.)

However, if you take my photo of a dish I painstakingly researched and made in my house on my plate and photographed and posted, and just chuck it into a collage, pinterest will think that the photo belongs to you. And if so, at least have the decency to put the link to the original post under the photo, because food bloggers spend time and money to create these foods, so at least respect that. If you don’t it would be considered plagiarism. Please do it for all the other people you took the photos from.

(Do you know how much beef of that size costs here?!?! $60 per kg)

Hey everyone, I don’t like being a downer on my blog, but this is the second time I’ve seen failure to credit happen to a fellow blogger, and there are probably more instances I’m not personally aware of/don’t remember. And yes, I did go to see for myself before deciding to reblog this to make sure I had a clear view of the situation. All of the images on this particular board are collaged together by the owner of the board, less than half have credit linking to source blogs.

People of the internet- we’ve already had the discussion about giving credit when it comes to music, art (both original and fanart), stories, and other content. Fanworks, including food, fall under this umbrella of “Things You Should Give Credit For Always!” Like other artists and fans, we work hard (and spend a fair amount of money) to adapt this content to a real-world value and share it with others. Please don’t be that person that spits in the face of hard work.

Always give credit when you share. If you share something and realize later/are notified that it doesn’t have credit on it, fix it. It’s ok if you forgot, but be gracious, own up to your mistake, and fix it. (not being able to find a source site is rarely a usable excuse these days.)

CW: Vent post

The most nerve-wracking thing I’ve done today is ask two people to delete one of my posts from their blogs because they had 18+ content.

I’m not ok with this, please just leave me alone…

What do I have to do? Put a banner with my dni at the bottom of every post I make?

I’m tired and upset.

Mans essentially said…

1. Don’t send threats or horrible messages to people! Ever! Don’t bring negativity or harassment into the world!

2.Remember that the people you interact with on the internet are real people and not just avators online- and we should treat people like people and not dogpile, harass, or be rude!

3. Constructive criticism is good! But also allow for people to make mistakes- and don’t attack the person- criticisze their actions. Remember that your actions can affect others. People make mistakes, people change, and we should work to educate and be constructive and not destructive.

Please listen to his wise words! Don’t send threats! Don’t harass people! Constructive criticism is good :))) but don’t be violent, awful, or rude. You’re talking to a real person after all! The Content Creators don’t support it, other fans don’t support it- literally no one should support it.

Report harassment! Don’t like it… don’t respond to it… simply block and report!
