P u m p k i n P r i m e was a regular ol’ jack-o’-lantern minding his own business. His stoop sat adjacent to a lithium pool. A bit unsightly, but his family didn’t mind much. After all, they needed those rechargable batteries to keep their gadgets and gizmos buzzing and beeping.

Late one rainy Mischief Night, a group of local punks and pukes thought it would be fun to hurl some pumpkins over the fence into the lithium pool. What’s the worst that could happen? Most fizzed and popped in defeat, but something strange happened when it was Prime’s turn.

After some unsightly melting and oozing and flashing and clattering, Pumpkin Prime emerged tall and lean - an unearthly fusion of organic and mechanical nonsense. He still roams the streets every Mischief Night. He searches incessantly for any who would seek harm against his unsuspecting pumpkin brethren. It would be impolite to tell you what happens when he finds them. .

I drew this wise man in the fall. He’s got several layers with increasing clarity in those on top - with the intention to create a volume the way a photographer might consider the depth of field.

Figure drawing with multiple models often breeds a nice narrative of indifference. Tension: can you feel it?
