Thank you all for sharing parts of your stories with me for my research. I closed my dissertation survey last week and reached my goal number of participants! I am truly grateful to my community for the emotional labor you gave to this project. I commit to doing justice to your stories and to using the pieces of yourselves that you shared with me to better trans lives.

The specific aims of my dissertation are to evaluate the relationship between anti-transgender bias experiences and post-traumatic stress. Essentially, I’m making initial steps in looking at the traumatic nature of the anti-transgender experiences far too many of us encounter on a regular basis.

I was asked to write a letter of affirmation to younger folk for The Provocateur by Kristin Prim. An excerpt: 

“WHEN I WAS YOUNGER, I SPENT SO MUCH TIME NOT ONLY FIGHTING MY OWN FEARS BUT ALSO FIGHTING THE FEARS OF OTHERS. THEY’D LOOK AT ME AND TELL ME THAT I SHOULD WAIT, THAT THIS WAS JUST A PHASE, THAT MAYBE I’D CHANGE MY MIND. LISTENING TO THEIR “CONCERNS” ONLY CLUTTERED MY MIND, MESSED WITH MY CERTAINTY. I WISH I HAD KNOWN THAT I WAS RIGHT, THAT I HAD THE ANSWERS, THAT I KNEW.”

For the third consecutive year, I’m doing a #TransBookDrive! This year, I’m partnering with Make It Safe to get 120 copies of Redefining Realness into school libraries and youth homeless shelters so that LGBTQ youth can have access to stories that reflect them. In 2013, running up to my book’s release, I gave away copies of my books to 127 trans readers who couldn’t afford it. In 2014, I partnered with biyuti publishing and Black Girl Dangerous Press to raise $10K to get books to trans prisoners with the help of LGBT Books to Prisoners. 

So for 2015, request your own copy or a copy for a school in need!
