I don’t know if anyone ever actually looks at my blog, but for anyone who does (hello!), I haven’t forgotten about uploading photos! So, here’s a couple of photos from the time I went to the breathtaking village in Shirakawa-go.

Will be uploading more photos from now on, I promise :)

Lenticular clouds over Mount Fuji, Japan. These are stationary lens-shaped clouds that form at high altitudes, usually perpendicular to the direction of the wind.

WHAT

That is a fucking cloud pagoda.

There’s a reason that Shinto practitioners believe that the clouds above Mt. Fuji are the home to the kami 木花之開耶姫 (Konohanasakuya-hime):

She is the goddess of Mount Fuji, as well as all volcanoes. She’s also the avatar that represents life to the Shinto. Her symbol is that of the 桜 (sakura - cherry blossom) which represents the idea of mono no aware or “the ephemera of things” - the awareness that life is both intense and fleeting.

These cloud formations were probably seen by people throughout history and stories formed from them, stories became folk religion.

I’m impressed with your knowledge of Shinto.
