Brigitte Bardot and Jean-Louis Trintignant, And God Created Woman (1956)

“Playing the love scenes I was myself, so, of course, I fell in love with my co-star in the film, Jean-Louis Trintignant. Vadim and I lived like brother and sister. I remained endlessly attached to him, he was my support, friend, family. But not a lover. I’ve long since grown cold to him. And I had an insane passion for Jean-Louis. Modest, deep, attentive, serious, calm, strong, shy — not like me, better than me!
I rushed headlong into his eyes, into his life, and with him into the blue Mediterranean Sea. This sea was the only witness to our meetings!
Jean-Louis wanted only me, just as I was, simple, unclothed, pristine. He would show me the night sky and the stars, and we would fall asleep on the warm beach sand. He opened up classical music to me. He taught me to love fiercely, truly, and to be subordinate to the beloved…
And I lived like a gypsy all the time.
My suitcases were in the trunk of Jean-Louis’ car, we slept wherever we had to, nothing mattered, everything seemed unimportant when we were together.
In the morning we were happy to come to the shooting. There were circles under our eyes. We never parted for a moment.
Vadim was tormented by shooting love scenes with us. And we suffered playing them in front of him and the rest of the crew…
I just fell in love! Jean-Louis was married to Stephane Audran, I was married to Vadim. And we gave up everything for each other!
With Jean-Louis I lived the best, fullest, happiest days of my life. Days of carelessness, freedom and - oh, bliss! - incognito and anonymity.”
