THE POST THAT WAS PROMISED! Let’s talk about clothing.
Right, so anyone who is anyone can see that Jorah Mormont slowly loses his clothing throughout the first season. It is so known. So that’s why we’re starting at the first episode where he’s got most of everything he owns on his back.
Seven bloody buggering hells this man must be roasting. LOOK AT EVERYTHING HE IS WEARING okay by my count he is wearing two shirts, a quilted gambeson, and a surcoat over that WITH A CLOAK ON TOP. Granted that grey cloak isn’t very heavy- you can see how sheer the weave is when the sun shines through it. That’s probably more for just keeping the sunlight and dust off than for keeping warm. But everything else is made out of some solidheavy fabric, you can just tell by looking at it. Probably wool.
MY GUESS IS that the costume probably just has the long quilted sleeves sewn directly into the surcoat, and isn’t a full garment all on its own. That saves fabric and saves Mr Glen from baking in the heat of the day. Can’t blame anyone for that. The surcoat is actually two fabrics: the center stripe with the four leather laces is a darker (but faded) green/black to match the sleeves. And if the surcoat is a seperate piece of clothing then those are cap sleeves. If it actually does have the sleeves attached then those are just wings.
Okay question time: those belts are hella long. There’s no reason in that. AND AND AND it’s not just one double wrap belt. It’s two separate fucking belts. Someone splurged at the belt shop eh Jorah. How does the sword belt even stay up. Wtf. wtf how does belts work. That is a mystery to us all. Second question wtf is up with that bright blue undershirt.
I assume he has pants and boots hurr but that surcoat is just so gorram long we don’t ever get a good glimpse at them in the first episode. So no screencaps. They’re there, though, duh. Go watch episode 10 for all the boot-porn you need. <3
I love the look, but I’m a little disappointed it isn’t even more GREEN AND BLACK MORMONT BEARS PRIDE 4 LYFE. QQ Moar Churl, I know I know. But it is appropriately dusty and travel worn and was probably all green at some point in his life, so I’m okay with that! Plus it really stands out against the Magisters and the Dothraki in their reds and golds and blues.
NOW COMMENCE HEAD CANONS AS TO WHY JORAH HAS THAT GOLD CALICO PIECE OF FABRIC WRAPPED AROUND HIS WRIST. Is it a good luck charm? Something he picked up during his sellsword days? Lynesse’s favor??

Offers you wine to calm your nerves and talks to you, and lets you take the lead. Thanks to his experience, he is gentle and very aware of what you want and where you want it.
