Jessie Meets Jourdan

Personally very excited about this, one of my favourite singers and one of my favourite models together in a music video.

Jessie J’s new single ‘It’s My Party’ has just been released, inspired by her haters the video contains Jessie going room to room to different parties and then ends with shots of her and the very gorgeous Jourdan Dunn partying away with friends.

You can watch the video here…

Marking his second runway show for Balenciaga womenswear, designer Alexander Wang aimed to bring some ease to the brand’s Spring/Summer 2014 collection. Indeed, the new lineup offered a more relaxed silhouette and more varied color palette than that of fall, but it still retained the structure of the fashion house’s DNA. Wang incorporated some of his own street wear aesthetic with the introduction of cropped tops paired with peplum skirts and shorts that had a sporty undertone. The Balenciaga woman embraced her girlish side in dainty dresses in pink and blue worn underneath sheer capes and veils.

For its Spring/Summer 2014 collection, Topshop Unique embraces bohemian style with an outing of worldly prints, relaxed silhouettes and romantic embellishments. A color palette of rich jewel tones such as emerald, sapphire blue and amber evokes the summer season. Besides what one would expect from a bohemian collection like maxi-length dresses and pretty prints, the Unique woman also lets out her artistic side with oversized, menswear inspired shirts and lightweight knits layered on top of wide-legged prints.

With Pharoahe Monch booming on the speakers, it was a trip back to the 90s tomboy for Alexander Wang. Menswear was the jumping-off point for the collection, with classic suiting being used for everything from spaghetti-strapped slip dresses to the waistbands of leather shorts. Men’s pajamas popped up in sexy shorts looks with plenty of stomach exposed.
There were old-school hip-hop references sprinkled into the collection. Babydoll dresses splashed with the designer’s name mingled with leather overall dresses, while workwear made an appearance in black shorts suits with white stitching. The shoes were a new silhouette for Alexander Wang, with a heavy platform and chunky heel all, in a high-sheen patent that almost looked like gleaming rubber at a distance. His bags were on full display with sleek duffels and oversize clutches standing out in shades of maroon and baby pink.

Chanel Métiers d'Art vs. Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show

December 2nd, a date to remember: it’s my birthday!!! :3

Ok, no joking, but the fashion world has given me a beautiful gift this year: both Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show AND Chanel Métiers d'Art were held on my birthday: it’s immediately fashion frenzy!

This time the two brands delivering two of the most important fashion events of the year decided to present their collections in Europe: VS chose the cosmopolitan and frantic London, while Chanel went for a more elegant and regal Salzburg, the city were Mozart was born, in Austria.

The fashion world started wondering about how the models were going to split between the two shows when, some weeks ago, it was announced that the two events were going to be held on the same day. But I have to say, I think both the shows had their great amount of supermodels equally distributed, so at least from that point of view, it was fair game.

Yet, it’s impossible to compare them as they’re basically the opposite of each other: while Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is bubbly and lively, Chanel Métiers d'Art is all about artisanal work, outstanding quality of the pieces and women being sophisticated. Pretty obvious after all.

Victoria’s Secret had its usual share of live music from popular singers, and while the ‘angels’ were walking down the runway, some famous artists sang in front of the audience of the Earls Court Exhibition Centre: Taylor Swift - who seems to have convinced herself of being one of the angels, as it’s already the second time she makes her appearance at the show and she really looks like she’s really enjoying it - the new everyone’s favourite Ed Sheeran, Hozier and especially the highly anticipated Ariana Grande, who really nailed it on the runway - and she was enjoying it as well really much.

Among the models instead, you could obviously see the 'expert’ angels - such as Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio - as well as the newbies, such as Grace Mahary - to be honest, I really don’t like her; I think she’s too thin and doesn’t look like a model at all. She always looks tired :s
I loved instead Cindy Bruna and Jourdan Dunn - they’re always awesome and sexy as hell!

But after all, who were the real protagonists of the show? The singers, the models or the lingerie? Hard question to answer. I guess what makes the VSFS so special is that is a TOTAL show, it’s not only about fashion, it’s entertaining and suitable for every taste.

Passing to the Chanel Métiers d'Art show, we go to the Eighteenth Century Schloss Leopoldskron Castle in Salzburg, entering a whole fairytale world made of princesses, duchesses, queens.

What to say? Karl Lagerfeld really leaves you speechless. It’s amazing how he can always, constantly put Chanel into what he does without creating the same things over and over. And the choice of Austria was not casual: the tirolese inspiration was really strong, obviously reinvented with tweed and the Chanel jacket - can there be a Chanel show without the tweed jacket? - in a profusion of bows, flower petals, corduroy capes, and princess-like dresses.

Kaiser Karl was obviously accompanied by his muse Cara Delevingne - I can’t stand her - and of course he managed to convey the idea he always conveys: Chanel remains after years and years one of the most powerful fashion brands - or THE most powerful? - on Earth. And we’re happy with it.

Stay tuned because the surprises for my birthday (yay!) are not finished, and there will be a very big one that I’m going to tell you when I write about the last lesson I had at the university with Missoni. DON’T MISS IT!

This was another great and exciting week for fashion, with cruise shows busying fashion experts’ schedules and announcement of new collections and collabs :D

Of course the most important news of the last days was Christian Dior 2016 Resort collection, presented in Cannes - where it’s currently held the Cannes Festival, and you can be sure I’ll post a review of the best and worst dressed of the event when it finishes on May 24th - at Le Palais Bulle, Pierre Cardin’s architecturally extravagant house.

And architecture was not a secondary thought in Raf Simons’s design process this time. First, fabrics: they varied from boldly coloured tartans to mesh and metallic looking see-through textiles giving texture and structure to the outfits. Shapes were undoubtedly solid-looking, with raglan sleeves giving a sort of armour-like allure which is maybe not usual Dior, but it was anyway credible for its pairing with very thin waistlines, V-necks and pleated skirts. Colours were really subtle, apart from fresh brushed of orange and blue - it reminded me of Rauschenberg’s beds colour palette - or repeated pattern of pseudo-flowers taking you back to the art nouveau era.

Among the new collections which have already been released in stores there’s Lulu Kennedy for Marks & Spencer: the capsule is definitely nailing it - I’ve noticed most of the fashion websites I follow are talking about it - and we all know that this year you can’t really do wrong when you go all the way for the boho chic style. Even if I think that in general it’s going to read really cheap in a couple of months - most of the pieces are really too obvious in my opinion - there are some cute things, like the little purse you can see in the photo above - but I would do without the beads.

It’s become a cult for fashion lovers and it’s definitely one of the fashion events we all wait for every year: the collab collections by H&M. This year the luxury brand which is going to design for the low-cost retail giant is Balmain with its creative director Olivier Rousteing. I will be honest, I don’t really follow Balmain’s creations, I’m not a super fan of the brand, but of course, it’s always interesting to see what designers from deluxe brands create for H&M. From what I see in the promotional photos released with the announcement - photos featuring two of the hottest models of the moment, Jourdan Dunn and Kendall Jenner, nice marketing strategy - I would probably like this edgy look - and isn’t the folding skirt that Jourdan is wearing a reproduction of a skirt I’ve seen in one of Balmain’s latest collections? Let’s wait for November to see more.
Another nice collection which I’ve heard about this week is the eyewear collab by jewellery designer Nicholas King and eyewear brand London Retro. All the profits will go to Orbis, a charity which operates in the world’s most troubled zones to help people with blinding conditions. Fashion for a good cause, always something I love!

I know all of you already know about this - when it comes to things having to do with Rihanna the news go viral instantaneously. Our ‘favourite’ singer - no, she’s not my favourite singer at all, but how can’t you love her when she’s always first row in every fashion event with extravagant and absurd outfits? - has been chosen by Dior for the new campaign ‘Dior Secret Garden IV’, filmed in Versailles. Stunning setting and view, I even think the clothes they chose for her fit her personality. Unfortunately I thought she is really strange looking when walking - those hip-moving is too exaggerated not to be parodied by the whole Internet - and running - can’t she run in heels? This is a must for all fashion bitches like her! No, I’m sorry RiRi, this was not enough for me.
