The short film is based on Hermann Hesse’s book ‘Demian’. I’ve read it about 3 years ago. It’s about a young boy named Sinclair who is between 2 worlds: the good world with his parents and two sisters, the house he lives in and his family, and the evil world which is kinda inside him. He feels connected to the devil throughout the story, he gets more and more familiar with the bad side of the world. He’s very confused and mentally ill which causes nightmares. Then he mets Demian who helps him to understand the world and his way of thinking. He explains the bad and good side of the world. Demian is very important for Sinclair and also kinda his role model. Sinclair also draws him at night when he’s having a nightmare. He often drew birds and he also sent one of his drawings to Demian. He saw an egg in his dreams and as time passed a bird came out of it.
The story of Sinclair describes the problems that young people face while growing up and trying to find out who they are (find their own personality). The bird that comes out of the egg is Sinclair who finally found himself and grew up. That's why jungkook has wings in the film.
I recommend you to read the book yourself, then you’ll understand the connection.
Also: this book has three parts, the first part describes Sinclair’s life between good and bad and his mental illness, the second one is about him changing his life and ‘letting himself go’ by drinking, it’s about him destroying himself. The third one is about finally getting back to Demian and finding his own way and his personality. I think that’s how bighit is planning to devide the plot line.
