It’s been 28 years since Kurt Cobain died and it’s always surprising and yet, completely understandable, how much his life and death and music still affects people. When you read the accounts of his last few months, it’s just so apparent that everything failed around him.

And you know, in 28 years, not that much has changed in the way we approach mental illness and addiction. I think to the KPOP deaths of recent years and it serves as a constant reminder for me to be kinder and more understanding to other people.

Anyways, to end on a positive note, Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged album is one of the best albums of all time. I never hesitate on giving it that kind of ranking. Here are some of my favourite songs from that set: The Man Who Sold The World|Where Did You Sleep Last Night|All Apologies |Something In The Way.

I don’t have a favourite Nirvana song because I only reach for them when I’m in a certain mood. For total catharsis, these two are my most played and the closest to being called my favourites because they have my favourite lyrics in them: You Know You’re Right|Aneurysm

Nirvana purposefully botched their performance of Smells Like Teen Spirit on the British TV show “Top Of The Pops” to protest the show’s policy that required artists to sing live vocals over pre-recorded back tracks
