Crescent Moon Cookies Recipe

Hello! I wanted to share a recipe with you all for a relatively easy sweet treat that is great for any occasion whether it be ritual, esbats, sabbats, for yourself or others. These crescent moon cookies are also a great home made gift.

The inspiration behind this recipe came from the tradition of cakes and ale as well as full moon rituals. I wanted a nice treat that I could make to celebrate the esbats.

Now for the recipe which I found on a lovely Austrian website. The Austrians call the cookies Vanillekipferl and they are delicious.

What you will need to make them :

- 180g butter

- 70g ground almonds

- 50g sugar

- 2 egg yolks

- 210g plain flour

Mix all of the ingredients into a short-crust dough and refrigerate for an hour.

Roll out the dough to about 1 cm and cut out crescent shaped biscuits. I personly found that you can also mould them with your hands just ensure that they are all approx 1 cm in thickness.

Place the cookies on an ungreased baking tray and bake at 200°C for about 10 minutes until they are a golden colour.

Once the cookies have cooled a little, mix some icing powder and vanilla sugar together in a bowl and gently cover the cookies in the mix.

With that the cookies are ready to eat.

Of course this is just the basics, you could easily put charms and spells on these cookies or incorporate them into your own personal rituals. The baking itself is a ritual of sorts. So feel free to add to the recipe if you so please.

I hope you guys give it a try, they are quick, easy and very tasty. Thank you for reading and blessed be!
