LIVE

King of Quills (Swords) Tarot card from Brink Literacy Project’s Literary Tarot Deck! Paired with Kelly Sue DeConnick’s interpretation with Marcus Aurelius, we initially took this card down a far more fiery path than we ended up finalizing it with. Here you can see the tonal shift from chaos and battle to the serenity of the aftermath.

To see more of the fantastic artists and authors working on this amazing deck, and to get one yourself, check out the Kickstarter here! Each card is paired with some HUGE names in comics and the literary sphere (Margaret Atwood, Mark Millar, Joel Kim Booster, Roxane Gay to name a FEW), and all the proceeds go towards Brink Literacy Project’s amazing cause. Definitely will be worth your while to at least check it out!

Hey all! Wanted to pop in and share an amazing project I’ve gotten the honor to work on!

I was recently invited to join the fantastic non-profit, Brink Literacy Project, to create the absolute coolest tarot deck for a fundraiser. Alongside literary giants such as Margaret Atwood, Roxane Gay, Lev Grossman, Patrick Rothfuss, and countless more incredibly talented authors, we’ve created the Literary Tarot! Each card is paired by an author with a classic work of literature to reflect and highlight the themes of each card. I’m doing the Swords Minor Arcana, which has been renamed to the Quills. Each of the artists who are working on this are incredibly talented, if you’d like to see some of the work we’ve made check out the Kickstarter link here!

Not only is the product absolutely stunning (from the packaging to gold foil inlaid on the art/cards) but the proceeds go to an incredible cause, Brink’s nonprofit mission to change the world through storytelling (they run great programs in max-security women’s prison, homeless shelters, and low-income high schools, using storytelling to stop cycles of poverty, discrimination, and incarceration). By supporting this project, not only do you get a gorgeous work of love and labor to hold in your hands, but you also contribute to helping folks all over discover a love of reading, storytelling, and self-expression.

Our Kickstarter has been live for several days already and we’ve hit several stretch goals (massive thank you to those who have contributed already!) so feel free to check out the Kickstarter link for any questions you need answered, look at the tiers to support and back the project, or just check out the fantastic list of talent Brink has brought in to make this possible!

Here are some images (some of the art I have made for it as well) to tickle your fancy!
