Jemma Lough, 43, had given up hope of seeing her beloved Toby again after failing to to return home one day in 2002
12 years later, Jemma received a shocking call and couldn’t believe when she heard that her missing cat is found.
More than a decade passed and she met her future husband Ant, 40, and set up home with him – 70 miles from the house she had shared with Toby and his mum Jackie.
So she was astonished when she received a call from a vet saying the cat, now 16, had been brought in – after he was found living at a drug rehab centre.
Jemma said: “I wish he could tell me where he’s been. His feet, which were white, are a little bit grey so you can tell he’s been living outside. I couldn’t believe the phone call. I’ve never had anything like it.
“When I took the call initially, I was shaking. There were a lot of tears when I first went to see him, it was overwhelming.”
A volunteer at the centre – two miles from Jemma’s old home in Braintree, Essex – thought Toby was a stray and took him to a vet.
Fortunately Jemma had updated her address when she moved, so her contact details came up on the cat’s microchip.
Toby is now settling back in at home with Jemma and his mum Jackie, now 18, in Yaxley, Cambs.
Jemma said: “He walked over and licked his mum’s head when he saw her again.”
“If I hadn’t updated my details then they wouldn’t have been able to find me because I had moved. Everyone should make sure their details are updated, no matter how long it has been.”

My cat is gone….
UPDATE: MY CAT CAME HOME TODAY!!
I have a cat.. but he has been gone for around 4 days now. He has not been home, eating his food etc. Fyi my cat is an outdoor cat, so we don’t have a litter box. We have been posting about it on Facebook (My town has a facebook page w about 6.6 k memebers in it) and asking neighbours if they have seen him. I have also been going for long walks and calling for him.. have done it for the past 2-3 days now but no sign of my cat. I have also been trying shaking a bag of cat food and calling out for him. In the front of our garden there is a huuge field (i live on the countryside ish) which is sourrended by other fields and forests (i have been looking there too)
I have mostly been walking around where i know he is a lot. But it’s summer and it’s a black & white cat… so idk if he is out hunting and his hunt is going well, if he has found a nice cool place to rest, found a new home (please please not this one) or anything else.
Do you have any cat stories where your cat has dissapeared but came back after a long while? Or just a few days? I’m really curious.. and how did you deal with it? I’m feeling really sad right now.. i just want my cat to get back home safely.
As you might remember from my article on Freya, she had 6 kittens. My sister and niece kept 2, Cleo and Kiri, and we kept Stiles. I love those babies so much. And my niece spent several afternoons helping us with them. Her mom had already picked out Cleo, but she had a special bond with Kiri. Kiri was always the meekest little kitten. She even took up a “mommy” role, grooming her siblings, and even trying to groom her mother. She’s the sweetest thing.
Late last month, she went missing. Cleo has never been without her sister, and my niece is heartbroken. We all are. Please share this if you can. She went missing in the Coweta, OK area, and we need to get her home.
