No foliage? No problem
°
Many of the orchids we grow are deciduous, or semi-deciduous. This means they shed their foliage at certain times of the year, usually in relation to seasonal dryness in their natural habitat (many orchids experience a tropical monsoonal climate)
°
By shedding leaves, and thereby reducing the amount of plant “surface”, water is preserved in thicker or succulent parts of the Orchid (usually canes or pseudobulbs) and a dormancy begins. During this. Water should be reduced significantly, watering only if you see noticeable shriveling in the bulbs
°
New foliage will begin to grow in the spring triggered by warmer, brighter days and more rainfall and usually in conjunction with beautiful flowers
