Maddy was convinced something was wrong with you. Mentally.
It was known since you first strolled through the halls in an Hermes sweater, loose dress pants, and shiny loafers like shit was casual that you had more money than necessary, and it only became more prominent as time passed on.
People first speculated that you were a drug dealer, you dressed similarly to the man they all bought from so you couldn’t be too far removed from that lifestyle.
But when you opened your mouth and were actually able to exercise your personality, the rumors were instantaneously crushed.
You were then titled the town’s good samaritan, along with your parents. Without going into heavy detail, your family, extended or immediate, all ran businesses within a larger gang in Southern Cali.
It wasn’t your typical drug cartel that sold children to older predatory people, but one that distributed products while also putting anything they had back into their communities, and when the opportunity to spread their grounds and expand arose, your parents were the first to agree.
You were the type to help old ladies cross the street while holding their heavy brick-filled purses, and the kind of person to spot another when they were short a few on cash, and yet you demanded nothing back.
Maddy thought you were exactly what she needed. Initially, you were a rebound. You were new, so you wouldn’t know the intricacies of her and Nate’s relationship or the risk of being with her, so you were perfect.
But then you began showing her an extreme opposite of the relationship dynamic she was used to. Your family loved her and genuinely enjoyed her presence. If she wasn’t spending the day with you, her friend group, or babysitting, she could be found in any location around town with your mother. Drinks in hand from a random juice store, and freshly done nails that your mom insisted she paid for because she “needed to familiarize herself with her future daughter-in-law”.
The relationship you two had wasn’t the type that grew uncomfortable because you were moving too fast, ever. Maddy wasn’t used to reciprocated affection and acted as if she needed to pretend she was happy, so you moved at a pace set by her and never failed to tell her how much she meant to you, and eventually (on your 6 month anniversary) how much you loved her.
You thoroughly enjoyed giving her everything she’d needed and missed out on with Nate, like spoiling the shit out of her without her having to directly ask.
Emotionally you sat by her, listening to any and everything she wanted to say, occasionally providing your own input when need be.
And physically or financially??? Maddy never even had to open those gorgeously glossed lips of hers to ask.
You were observant. You saw the way she screenshotted ads for clothing on Instagram, and the endless Pinterest boards she had for whatever she envisioned. So whenever you noticed something catch her eye, it would immediately be in your cart, whether virtually or while in-store.
For your first Christmas together, you took her out on a simple venture to your nearest mall. A party for New Year was around the corner, and she’d mentioned needing an outfit so why not kill two birds with one stone?
Instead of the typical mall entrance, you took her through Sephora’s storefront. Anything her eyes cut back to, you snapped a picture of and followed right back behind her.
It was funny for other patrons and workers to watch. They saw her gracefully walk by and let her finger drag on a newly released palette, and here came your hulking figure that was definitely too big to be comfortable in the aisle, getting all close to snap a picture and read the label with your tongue poking slightly out in focus, before speed walking back to her and grabbing her hand.
Maddy was nearly in tears when looking at your room on Christmas evening. She wanted to stay with her family for the morning, so you took the liberty of bringing in a mini-tree, decorating it like the one in your living room, and stacking all of her presents beside it (there were too many for them to sit right under it). Each new gift she opened added another tear dropping down her cheek, she didn’t know what angel sent you for her, but she is so grateful she has you.
You were a selfless, stupidly rich simp for Maddy, and she loved everything about it.
