Now that I’m getting hyped for my long-overdue Hannibalrewatch once it drops on Netflix in a few weeks, it’s occurring to me that I never actually got around to that Hinges of Human Sympathies sequel I swore I was going to write. But after doing some digging in my Google Drive, I found that I actually hadstarted writing it! At some point. Last year (or the year before that). And then stopped.
Given that I’m currently working on The Plague Upon the House, it’s unlikely that I’ll get around to finishing that untitled sequel anytime soon, if at all… but I still like this fragment, so here it is!
The day the woman with the fur coat and red lipstick came to her office, it had been a week since Hannibal Lecter had escaped and an hour since Alana Bloom had quit guest lecturing at Quantico. Alana had propped the door ajar: not because she wanted to give the impression that she was openly inviting people in, but because these were her office hours and she had to be hereand not sitting in her car and screaming and screaming without a sound.
The woman didn’t come right in, but she stood on the threshold and waited for Alana to finish filing away her slideshow notes and turn around. Before Alana could be startled, the woman made eye contact and gave her a charming, closed-mouth smile.
“You must be Dr. Bloom,” she said. Her voice was dry and husky.
Will Graham deals with huge amounts of fear. It comes with his imagination.
An office comedy where nothing bad happens and no one dies
I couldn’t get this crossover out of my head for,, weeks? Hannibal and Elias are both manipulative bastards, and Will and Jon both desperately need a nap. So with the Magnus Archives finale literally tomorrow (I’m terrified) I finally sat down and spent a few hours sketching this.
