“So, beads, huh? For… a lucky charm?” Chat guessed.
Marinette nodded. “Two, for my friends.”
Her dispirited tone caught Chat’s attention. Marinette was usually more cheerful—but then again, it was past midnight, and she must be tired.
“There’s a secret in the design,” Marinette said with a faint smile that Chat thought looked a little forced.

By the time Chat can slip out of his rooms, four sections of his candle clock have melted. He curses as he ties on the black mask, the soft fabric wrapping around his face. Sometimes he feels a little silly wearing it, like a charlatan performer his father hires, but it’s this or risking recognition.
Desperate not to be identified, his entire ensemble used to be a mess of old black clothes— which never bothered him until he met Marinette. She had gawked at his outfit, not remotely afraid of the stranger dressed like some kind of criminal.
He grins as he pulls on the cloak she made. ‘That hair isn’t very stealthy,’ she had said, tugging the hood up.
Hey y’all, here’s my full piece for the @kittylovezine MariChat zine! It’s been a little while since it’s been out and unfortunately leftover sales just ended but I hope everyone who wanted a copy was able to grab one. This was a fun project to be a part of!
After his fifth or sixth, Plagg honestly wasn’t keeping count, round of pacing about his room, he watched Adrien’s pensive expression tighten any time he subconsciously “straightened” out an item on a shelf or his desk for the umpteenth time. Opening and closing drawers as if he was looking for something to be amis or messy.
Earlier that day he had completely cleaned out Plagg’s cheese cupboard and then reorganized it from not as smelly to the almost foul.
Plagg sighed and curled in the cheese box he just finished off into what Adrien decided to call “loafing” and watched as Adrien zoomed across the room to place grab a trophy and relocate it to another shelf. Resting his chin on the lip of the container and just following his human with his eyes.
Another hour or so later, he had dozed off only to be shaken awake when Adrien was now moving the coffee table, albeit with some trouble, it was pretty solid. He floated up in a huff, rubbing sleep.
“Ok Adrien, I think we need to get you out of the house.”
Like he snapped back into reality from wherever his mind had been, he looked up to see a grumpy groggy Kwami. “Oh.. sorry Plagg. I guess I was in the zone. ” Leaving the table where it was, indents in the carpet where the legs once stood, plopped himself into the couch which was now covered in what could potentially be his whole wardrobe. “I can’t leave the house, you heard father. He doesn’t want me to get caught up in the convention.”
Plagg rolled his eyes, “What about as Chat Noir? Chat Noir doesn’t have to stay home.”
Adrien rested his head on the back of the couch, staring out the large windows. “Ladybug asked me to stay inconspicuous, the Convention leaders are huge influencers, and doesn’t want too much media attention on us right now. Especially after that happend with Nadja on the news.”
“That was months ago! I’m sure people are over it by now!”
Sighing, Adrien closed his eyes and massaged the bridge of his nose. “Also… the paparazzi photo of me and Marinette…”
Plagg floated down and sat on his knee. “Oh. Yeah. I sorta forgot about that one.”
Silence took over the room again. Where before it was calm, now was stagnant.
“It was a really nice one though! I think you should ask her out!”.
Adrien sputtered and gave the magical cat an incredulous look. “If I went out with her, as myself OR Chat Noir, I could be putting her in jeopardy no matter which way you look at it. Let it be her reputation, or danger. ” Plagg has had this discussion with him before and just swishes his tail in agitation.
Regardless of his argument, a solemn look crossed his eyes. Pulling out his phone, he pulled up his gallery and looked at the picture in question, zooming in on their semi blurry faces, pecking him on the cheek when she thanked. His expression softened, looking back on the memory, the feeling of her fingers just lightly touching his face, the softness of her lips.
Sighing almost whimsically. “It really is a nice one, huh.” The soft fur of his partner’s head butting his hand, purring in agreement, knowing full well of the consequences of letting them be together, but it’s a wonderful daydream, nonetheless.
Marinette is not sick. She’s not! Ok, so she has a little tickle in her throat. And a pounding headache. And shes aching all over. But really, she’s fine.
