Bionicle Retrospective: 2001-2003 (HD Remastered)

For anyone who wants to be properly introduced to the BIONICLE series, receive a basic idea of what the narrative is about, or have an extra resource that you can show your friends to help explain the Bionicle lore to them, then this video is for you, featuring re-recorded HD audio and all-new voice-over lines that weren’t present in my 2016 version.

This is where BIONICLE started.

Tiny Matoran

For a while I’ve been wanting to try to make a bunch of tiny dioramas for scenes from MNOG and other 01 era Bionicle media, but doing it with the real sets would be huge, and for stuff with a lot of Matoran, expensive. Since I got a 3d printer recently I though about trying to see just how small I could make a matoran with it, and it turns out it’s quite small!

Approximately 1.75cm tall!

Since this is a test I went with the prototype Takua colouring, nicknamed George.

I’m really impressed by how well the detail on the Pakari came out! It’s so hard to paint things this size though, or even pick it up.

Quest for the Toa-Matoran

I made Takua’s early design, aka George.

Really what kicked off my building spree was seeing these super weird Vuata Maca crystals. I mean it’s an arm with a foot shoved on it, it’s so odd. I just felt the need to build it.

I also finally got around to making the lava board as there’s much better references for it in QFTT than in MNOG

I messed up a bit when making this model in real life and realised that putting the wings on upside down gave them a better range of motion so I made an animation of it with my 3d models.
