Miracle On 34th Street (dir. George Seaton, 1947)
I believe… I believe… It’s silly, but I believe.

Happy St. Patricks Day to all of you. This is not a day for carousing and getting drunk, for cheap jokes about leprechauns and what have you. It is a cultural and religious celebration held on 17 March, the traditional death date of Saint Patrick, the foremost patron saint of Ireland. I’ve lived in Ireland, and I know the land well, and the people too. They are fine and passionate creatures. Maureen O’Hara came from the Republic, the Dublin suburb of Ranelagh, and rose to fame in American films like The Quiet Man. Her fiery performances are legendary. What a role model that lady was.

March (and part of April! And the end of Feb!) was Maureen O’Hara month. 42 films were watched. A quick canter through some of the later films: Our Man in Havana, Against All Flags (with Errol Flynn), Lady Godiva (with George Nader), Wings Of Eagles, Malaga/Fire Over Africa (not recommended!), The Magnificent Matador (with Anthony Quinn), Redhead From Wyoming (with Alexander Scourby), Wings of Eagles again, At Sword’s Point and The Quiet Man.
At some point in the year I hope to catch up with the half dozen later movies I have. Her autobiography, Tis Herself, is a very good read, and you get the impression throughout that she’s a straight shooter.

The ‘Queen of Technicolor’ looks pretty good in b & w - Maureen O’Hara in ‘Immortal Sergeant’ (1943)

‘The Quiet Man’ starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara.
Sean Thornton amd Mary Kate Danaher ditching their chaperone, Michaeleen Oge Flynn.
One of my favorite movies.
