Hello minna! I know, it’s been ages since the last time I posted figures like this. I’ve been very inactive for the past 2 years. Living abroad wasn’t so bad but I just lost the inspiration to blog. I hope 2018 will be a good restart again 〔´∇`〕. Anyways ..so here is one of my waifu in all her glory,  Perona the Ghost Princess. (more…)

Desktop Army updates from MegaHobby Expo 2019

「ケイカンオウ」 (Keikanou) mecha-chicken prototype arrives, not eggs-actly what you’d expect in the Desktop Army world…

Although the illustration has a Sylphy pilot, it looks like there may be a B-121s pilot in the prototype (more about the new series below).

There’s another painted teaser of the F-606s Frea series, this time in the red variant. Another detail I’ve noticed from the Nabbit sister figures is a neck tie instead of a bow tie.

There’s also a new Frea colour variant, not appearing in the Nabbit sisters line-up, and mecha labelled as the F-666d series.

There are more of the B-121s Sylphy II series, with a colour variation along similar lines to the Y-021d Millenia series.

Megahouse showed off illustrations of the fan-designed Arisa series.

Finally, not in the core Desktop Army series but deserving of a mention due to all those mechanical parts is a crossover with the Alice Gear Aegis character Kaneshiya Shitara.

I’ve nearly got my design for my Desktop Army 3D printed stand ‘ready for production’. I’ve shown it here with a quarter circle arm and I’ve got gone back to a revised version of the original base (Busou Shinki inspired). Although I’ve used the yellow PLA my printer came with for this print, I’ll switch to black PLA material for the final version.

Here’s the first two draft versions of my 3D printed Desktop Army 3D stands. The top photo shows my first attempt, with three points of articulation (using M3 bolts and captive nuts) and a Busou Shinki-inspired base. I thought the bolts looked too dominating, so I’ve used smaller M2 bolts and nuts for my second attempt. I also removed a point of articulation and experimented with a smaller base. Both base variations are made in two parts; the first stand joins the two using a 3mm peg and hole, and the second stand uses a cantilever clip. There are some minor issues but I’m close to finalising the design.

3D printers are fascinating but until recently I didn’t think I could justify the cost for the amount that I’d use it. That’s all changed now that I’ve picked up an Xyzprinting Minimaker for the crazy low price of £132 - possibly the cheapest ‘big name’ printer available?

Apart from it’s garish colour scheme, which wouldn’t look out of place in a Noddy cartoon, it seems to be decent for the price and I’ve found it easy to get started with. Using my favourite 3D editing application SketchUp, I’ve started out by designing new stands for my Desktop Army figures and the photos are of my first test print of these!

I need to make refinements to the design but I’m look forward to sharing the finished stands once they have been refined and printed.
