Who wants to be a millionaire? Here’s one way to do it. The premise: a new Audi Q7 every 5 years during your working life (25 years) vs a 3 year old Toyota Prius every 5 years. You’d spend $34,413 more to buy the Audi every 5 years and spend $8,414 more on gas (assuming you drive 15,000 miles per year). If you instead bought the Prius and invested that savings in a standard index mutual fund returning 11%, you’d wind up with $1.4 million when you retire. This does not include maintenance of either vehicle. All by simply making a different car choice.
Lesson: stop acting rich and start getting rich.
