LIVE

I miss ye good oldern days of the internet, when there was a roleplay game for each of my favorite books and movies….

The night breathed through the apartment like a dark animal.

The ticking of a clock.

The groan of a floorboard as he slipped out of his room.

All was drowned by its silence.

But Jacob loved the night. He felt it on his skin like a promise. Like a cloak woven from freedom and danger.

Anyway instead of doing stuff I was supposed to be doing I made a ‘What Mirrorworld character are you’ quiz! It’s my first quiz so it’s really obvious and dumb but anyway, enjoy!

kami'en appreciation post: whatever the hell he’s doing here

i know i mentioned this one million years ago but nerron really is out here spending half his life aggressively daydreaming. this isnt by any means every incident where you see him fantasizing, just a few occasions in the golden yarn.

What did I say?

“Pleeeeeease” Yelled the kid, bouncing up and down on his booster seat on the rear seat.

“Jacob!”

“But you promised you would have done something GREAT for my birthday!” Exclaimed him, pressing his nose against the car window.

Yes, he had

“I haven’t forgotten it” said John Reckless, smiling.

“REALLY?” Asked the little Jake, his eyes full of adventures as only a six-years-old could be. They had left Rosamund and Will at home, his younger son was too little for that kind of…experience.

And Rosamund didn’t totally approve it, but she hadn’t said anything. Probably because it was a dream, for her, to see her husband. John was proud of her loyalty, and hided his shame under piles of lies. He had passed a long time away from home.

“Where are we going, then?”

“It’s a surprise, I can’t tell you”

“Please?”

“No”

“This isn’t right!”

“But you love surprises!” Chuckled John, without noticing how his child’s eyes had darkened at those words.

Jacob murmured something, pointing his eyes towards the window.

“What?”

“When will you disappear again?” OH

“Not soon… I had some…things for work to get done and…”

“Grandpa says you’re unreliable” Ah, Rosamund’s father… always ready to vilify him.

“Don’t believe him, then. I’m here, aren’t I?” But Jacob wasn’t listening anymore.

The car ride proceeded for at least another half-an-hour. A long time for someone incapable of staying quiet. His teachers always complained to his mother that Jacob was as reckless as his name. Well, they were boring, so he didn’t care much of their opinion. They descended in front of a strange building next to a long concrete trail. Jacob stared intently at the halls and at the people his father greeted as friends.

“So you’re here to have and adventure?” Asked the guy in a suit to Jacob. He furrowed his little brows. Oh, what he would have given away to be a grown-up, to look at that pretentious stranger dead in the eyes at the same height.

“Obviously” said the kid. John smiled.

“Your favourite? Do you want a pilot?” Asked The Guy. His father nodded and dragged Jacob outside, on the concrete railway.

“Why are we here, dad?” asked the child.

“Well, why don’t you go there and find out yourself?” Said John, pushing Jacob towards a great shed. He loved discovering things, but he tried not to show his eagerness. He slipped through the high, ajar door and…

“WOW” He exclaimed, unable to contain himself.

It was an hangar.

“ARE WE GOING TO….”

“Shhhhh, Jacob! People are working, don’t scream!”

“…FLY?” John gave his son a defeated look.

“Yes”

“THIS IS THE   BEST    BIRTHDAY   OF MY WHOOOOLE LIFE” Screamed him, running towards the closer airplane. It was old, like the ones his dad had on his desk. A man with a uniform appeared from behind the vehicle and laughed.

“Oh yes, this will be a great adventure, how old are you?”

“Six. Today”

“You’ll be my younger passenger on this model. Come on, are you ready to fly?”

The kid that greeted that opportunity with cries of delight couldn’t ever imagine that he wouldn’t have remembered that as a good memory. And, even more, he couldn’t have imagined that it would have saved his life many years later. In another world.

“Donnesmark!”

“Shut up. I have the precise order to give you only food and…”

“News from the world outside?”

“No”

“But, please…”

“You know you’re an idiot? What were you doing?”

“I… needed something”

“From the chambers of the Bavarian Ambassador?”

“I wasn’t stealing at all! I would have returned the book the following day! I needed some informations about…”

“And you couldn’t ask for it?”

The prisoner took a little step closer to the bars.

“Why are we having this conversation?” Whispered the prisoner.

I’m sure this has never worked, ever” Murmured the Austrian soldier in response. “But she was so sure…”

The other one grinned, took a big step back and sighted.

“What crap are you making me eat? And not a single drop of wine or beer…” He said, dramatically.

“You don’t deserve it. Thieves don’t deserve such comforts…” Sneered the guard, who had been trying to eavesdrop the whole conversation. The prisoner smiled at him, a smile all white teeth and grinning grey eyes… eyes so good at lying but obscured by some strange secret. Stormy eyes, one could say.

The hit stroked so strongly that it made the guard lose consciousness.

“Aaaaand I haven’t seen anything. Keep him alive, please. I hope to see you two soon, but in other…circumstances” Said Donnesmark, a little nervous, before leaving them alone.

“Hey. I knew you would have rescued me”

“Quick, we don’t have much time” said Fox, before opening the cell’s door with the key she had stolen from the guard.

“Donnesmark won’t…”

“No, I think the Empress will close an eye for her best Treasure Hunter”

“hunters” repeated Jacob, while sliding through the aperture and greeting her.

He started walking towards the end of the corridor.

“haven’t you got anything to say?” She asked. Jacob spun around and fixed his gaze on her eyes.

“Thank you, sly Fox?”

“You’re welcome, dumbass. Now, get out of here.”

The fourth MirrorWorld / ‘Reckless’ novel in the MirrorWorld / 'Reckless’ novel series

Today I finally got the fourth Reckless novel “The Silver Tracks”.

After 6 years and 4 extra days of waiting (originally it was released November 4, 2021, but my copy’s arrival kept being pushed back twice) I finally got it.

But, as much as I love the novel series there’s one thing I’m not overly fond of.

The overall appearance of the novel.

Just let me do a quick comparison down here below:

On the left we have my 2016 revision of the first novel in the series The Petrified Flesh, released by Breathing Books (the author’s own publishing company at the time which is discontinued by now). On the right there’s the 2021 English edition of The Silver Tracks.

What doesn’t sit well with me are several things:

1. Different publishers; Cornelia Funke, the author would always put a golden ribbon in her novels published by Breathing Books. When it comes to Pushkin Press which published the book for her instead of herself, there is no ribbon to be seen at all. And I’m going to miss that ribbon. Badly.

2. Height difference: notice how Reckless 4 somehow doesn’t fit in height because again different publisher. It’s so small.

3. Pages; So far all my MirrorWorld novels began at page number 1. Why the heck should it be different for the newest installment and start at page 9??? What’s the reason behind that?

4. Table of contents; This is fine I suppose since no MirrorWorld novel appears to have one except older versions?

5. Feel of the cover: All the covers of my MirrorWorld novels so far feel smooth whereas the Reckless 4 On The Silver Tracks one feels kind of rough?

6. Shimmer: The previous reckless novels are shinier and have a specific shimmer. When looking at the German edition of Reckless 4 the Kitsune’s tails are golden. Whereas the English one has no to little shimmer.

7. Taking the dustcover off; so far every installment that has a dustcover has a similar cover underneath. Reckless 4 is just

blank

I don’t get that not at all.

Seven massive complaints aside about the appearance of this novel, I’m going to love the story plot once more I’m certain.

Just not the novel’s appearance which is pretty much a thorn in my eye and I’m not alone in that.

In short I honestly really miss how Cornelia Funke’s Breathing Books publishing company (run by her along with Mirada) used to publish the novels.

Not only was it a treat for the bookworm heart to read but also a treat for the eye.

I won’t stop reading these series regardless of how Pushkin Press approached the fourth novel’s appearance.

!!!

OMG YES, YEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =‘D

Not sure whether I’ll be able to get my hands on Reckless 4 February next year or autumn next year but still!!

Wait,re-published? Is The entire MirrorWorld novel series going to be re-published a second time, or?

What does she mean by that???

mirrorworldbooks:

There it is.

The cover of the fourth mirrorworld book!!!

Isn’t it the most beautiful thing ever?!

Look at fox! And the gold!

The title is “On silver track” btw.

Either the title may be the same with the English edition or it’s going to be Reckless 4 Kitsune in English instead.

‘’On silver track’’ only makes sense though.

The English edition of this beauty might or might not be a long way off still but heck am I happy with this official cover reveal. I can’t get over how gorgeous it is. Especially that fox and all those golden flames on its nine tails.

It only took almost five long years but it’s so going to be worth the wait.

I do hope Jacob and Fox will finally admit they love each other in this novel. Yet that would need one heartwrecking moment, I think.

John Reckless when he found out Jacob followed him through the mirror

Who is going to punch John Reckless first, Fox or Will?

Not that I really hate this man or anything

Alright, how stupid was I to forget about him and not make the connection ‍♀️
