Misha had such a perfect cockatoo day! We started off at the @tgfarmersmarket (I’m going to get a bandana for him from @izzysbarkinbandanass ), then did the South Grand Art Fair, ate at @steveshotdogs , and he had the most fun sitting pretty in a friend’s peach tree. He told me for the first time, as I was putting him to bed, “Misha love you” (which Chris tells me he practices saying when I’m not around, but this was the first time he said this to me and in context no less). He’s previously just said “Misha love her”. 7 years ago today, I was fated to become a “failed foster” with Misha. I was not looking for a bird and I was actually pretty scared of Moluccan cockatoos, yet I was immediately able to handle Misha. When a bird chooses you and there’s that spark of immediate connection, there is no saying no without lifelong regret. Misha was about 6 years old when we met, and he’s gone through the rowdy adolescent phase surprisingly well (none of the aggression or personality changes that others have documented). He’s gladly accepted a harness so he can go out with me, and he adapts to whatever my schedule is. He is the best bird about choosing and eating healthy foods, and in 7 years he has destroyed less of my house and belongings than Boo does in one year.
