night-chant:

I had a strange urge to work on this draft I had in my phone for months and the very next day the Oracle event was announced lol—it was supposed to be a long fanfic but I think this will suffice :)

Featuring: GreekGod!Gavin x reader

Summary: A girl enjoys living her tranquil life in her village in Ancient Greece. She heard many stories of heroes and ordinary mortals encountering the gods whom they worship. As a matter of fact, she met one without knowing.

Warnings/Notes: No spoilers from Oracle Revelation event dates, inspired by existing myths, brief mentions of Ancient Greece’s shame culture, the Wish Tree Event appears to be Greco-Roman inspired but I kept it only Greek here :)

- Like the other gods, Gavin was immortal who possess eternal youth and shape-shifting abilities. He was a well respected and admired god for his contribution in warfare and tactics.

- However, centuries passed and the gods of Olympus grew more prevalent across all regions. Gradually but surely, the history and existence of the remaining gods were forgotten among mortals, buried within fading parchment and abandoned ruins.

- It would be possible to join and live in Mount Olympus but Gavin preferred a life of solitude and tranquility. This hasn’t changed up until now.

I absolutely adore this!

- Gavin doesn’t often spend his time up in the heavens and prefers staying on Earth exploring uncharted regions in the mountains and rivers, undisturbed.

- Before nightfall, he usually bathes by a secluded waterfall. He is about to rinse off when he hears sudden splashing coming from the other side of the rocks.

- His face pales as soon as he peeks over where a maiden, completely bare, wades toward the opposite end of the waterfall, letting the water droplets trace over her smooth skin.

- What’s worse is that he hasn’t seen a mortal for centuries. He is trying to recall the last time when suddenly, she turns around, facing his direction.

- Hastily, he hides behind the boulder but the quick rush of water from his abrupt movement gives him away.

- “Who’s there?” she says warily. Her voice is clear and steady. It sounds quite lovely. Somewhat intimidating but lovely nevertheless.

- When he remains silent, he hears the water parting away as she approaches.

- She’d be terrified if she finds him as a bare man and so he instinctively uses his godly ability to shapeshift into the first thing he can think of: a sparrow.

- Seeing a soaked little bird in the water, the girl decides to scoop it up and dry its wings. Her gentleness of her fingertips almost makes him melt from the affection that he doesn’t realize he craves.

- Soon after, the girl befriends it after noticing that it hasn’t flown away yet and so she talks to it a lot, treating it as if it understands every word. She offers it grains of wheat or fruits every time she finds the very sparrow in the nearby meadows. She treats any scrapes she finds on the bird, scolding it for its carelessness.

- She doesn’t mean to give the bird a name but ends up calling it “Chirpy” after the bird turns its attention to her so earnestly when she first calls it that.

- She shares secrets that she doesn’t tell anyone to Chirpy like her favourite hideaways, her fear of storms, what kind of person she wants to marry ..

- (maybe the bird is taking down mental notes)

- She wishes her friend could speak so she could hear its own secrets.

- Once, she said she loves peonies and azaleas and so in human form, Gavin spends hours alone making a decent flower wreath for her and the bird carries it to her the next day.

- The bird sometimes visits and perches on her windowsill. She welcomes it and shows it to her small home.

- When the girl brings Chirpy to her village, the bird makes a fuss when other guys get too close to the girl. It might flutter around the guys and maybe start snapping at them with his sharp beak lol

- In a stormy night, the lightning is more severe than usual as it hits nearby cliffs of the village. Gavin is worried and decides to check in on the girl in case she’s afraid or if she got hurt.

- By the time he got there, the girl sees a soaking wet bird and she brings it in to dry off, assuming that her friend is seeking her help or at least safe and warm shelter.

- When he’s convinced she’ll be alright, the bird starts hopping back to the windowsill but she stops him.

- “Don’t you dare, Chirpy! It’s dangerous outside. The storm will probably stop tomorrow and it’ll be safe to fly again then. You’re still cold, come sleep with me tonight.”

- ??? The bird thinks it misheard her.

- The girl insists and with the lack of strength compared to a human, the bird was tucked snug beside the girl on the bed— it was really warm and cozy and eventually he couldn’t help but fall asleep too…

-Unfortunately, it’s so cozy that his shapeshifting slackens and wears off and he is in his human form again as he dozes with her.

- By the time it’s morning, the girl is snuggling against Gavin while he holds her protectively around his arms—the position was intimate with her face against his neck and his thigh between her legs.

- She wakes up first because the comforting warmth around her is unfamiliar and firm and muscular …  Seeing him, she almost screams as she tries to scramble away but he pulls her against him again.

- He’s stuck in his subconsciousness, clinging to the wonderful feeling of holding the girl he is—slowly but surely—falling in love with.

- Gavin wakes up when he hears her voice calling for help. At first, he’s confused why she is staring at him in fright. Instinctively, he thinks he was injured or something but notices his human limbs around her.

- He immediately lets go and puts distance between each other as she wraps the blanket around her figure for decency.

- He apologizes immediately. He isn’t sure if he wants to disassociate this human form from the bird so he could return to the way things were. It’d be safer that way. Even if she views this version of him with terror.

- He’s about to leave but she stops him, demanding answers and threatening him to not tell anyone about this or she will be shunned in her village.

- Gavin doesn’t realize the latter part. He promises he won’t and that he was not taking advantage of her.

- “Then why were you sleeping with me?? What did you do to the bird? How could you? It doesn’t matter if it’s a rare breed or not. It’s my friend. You give her back!”

- “Him…” Gavin corrects in a murmur.

- “Huh?”

- Quickly changing the topic, Gavin asks what he could do to seek her forgiveness.

- “Tell me why you choose to target me! How many other women have you terrified? And how many birds did you steal? That’s my dear friend! You deserve punishment!” The girl flew punches against his chest and he lets her, upset that he’s the one making her cry and angry all at once.

- He explains that he would never do any of that, not when he believes birds should always be free and go as they please and not when he has fallen in love with one person. He urges her to keep beating him up and that he deserves it for making a foolish mistake.

- “…Did you …do anything to me last night?” she asks, faltering.

- Gavin immediately holds her hands then thinks better of it and removes them reluctantly. “No. I would never. I promise. I won’t ever hurt you.”

- ‘Why is he so sincere and devoted? Who is he?’ the girl thinks.

- With a heavy heart, Gavin promises her that he’ll leave the village and stay away and for a long time, he does just that. The bird hasn’t shown up since.

-The girl’s look of terror and anger toward his human form made him want to stay a bird forever.

- A month passes and Gavin still can’t help but yearn to see her again. Hesitant, he returns to her windowsill shyly as a sparrow.

- The gloomy look over her lifts as soon as she recognizes the bird. She cheers so joyously and sheds tears of relief, contrasting her anger and horror from before.

- She asks what happened and why it left during that night and explains how a man went to sleep with her.

- “I was so scared I thought the worst had happened to you and to me! He was so strange. But frankly, I thought about the incident for a while and I’m not that scared anymore…not of him anyway. It was so strange. He really did look remorseful and ashamed but that can’t be! He was the one who went to sleep with me! Unless he sleepwalked? Well, how did he get into my house? The door wasn’t broken either.”

- Cautiously, she eyes the bird (he’s grateful in this form; she doesn’t expect an answer from him)

- The girl leans in and whispers, “…Don’t tell anyone but …I think he’s kinda cute..I know! I know! It’s wrong! Don’t peck me! I know how much you hate guys!”

- The bird hasn’t moved since its arrival. It now peers at her curiously.

- The girl stares out the window in deep thought. “He really did mean it. No one treated me differently since and I haven’t seen him either. It was like a dream? The door and windows were locked. I don’t understand how he got in…or how you got out.”

- Suddenly, her eyes lit up. “Could he be a god? No wonder he looked so charming! What do you think, Chirpy?”

- Bird looks away—good thing you can never tell if a bird’s face turns red.

- The subject is dropped because the girl focuses on welcoming back her good friend.

- Days later, she searches around the village’s temples but none of the gods resemble that guy from that night.

- There are small ruins nearby her favourite hideout spot near the mountains and she decides to inspect it closely. She looks around, but nothing is really there except overgrown trees with low branches, rubble and walls of vines.

- Bird is hesitant to follow and tries to motion her to leave with his fluttering wings but the girl doesn’t listen.

- When she moves around the vines, she finds that they cover something sculpted marble— highly unlikely nature formed without human craftsmanship.

- She climbs the big olive tree nearby and continues to push away the vines and eventually, she is face-to-face with a very tall statue. He had armour over his chiton with arm guards and greaves. A sword is sculpted at the side of his waist and laurels lie over his hair.

- His clothes aren’t familiar, but his fringe and facial structure are.

- A familiar-looking bird was sculpted to be over his shoulder…

- The girl points at it, shocked at the suspicious coincidence. “Hey! He has a sparrow friend that looks awfully like you!” The pieces start to fall in place and the dawning realization and dread finally hit her: “I …was with a god,” she whispers. “I was yelling and threatening and hitting him…This can’t be…I’m doomed…”

- Although she is not familiar with this particular god, she is hasty to plead for his forgiveness.

- She tries to scramble down to bow before the gigantic statue, planning to give all offerings she can, but she slips over the rock and falls toward the marble floor.

-The bird soars after her and before her eyes—in a flash—Gavin transforms back to his human form. He catches her and together, they land safely.

- The girl can’t speak at first: “?!!! It ..uhm, Chirpy was…you the whole time??”

- The god rubs the back of his neck, unable to meet her eyes in this form. “Uhm, yes. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner. I didn’t want to frighten you and I couldn’t find the right moment to tell you.”

- “But you heard all of my secrets and personal matters and..” she falters before pointing at him. “You saw me bathe!”

- The god’s face burns scarlet. He holds her accusing forefinger gently.  “It was by accident! You heard me so I transformed to the first thing I could think of so I wouldn’t frighten you. I’m sorry.”

- “No, I’m the one who needs to apologize,” the girl says as she bows. “My lord, please spare me. If I had known sooner, I wouldn’t have acted so rashly. Please forgive me.”

- He hurriedly brings her back to her feet. “There’s no need to treat me like this.”

- “But you’re a god! Of course I must!” she insists.

- “Ahem. I really liked the way you treated me when I was a bird,” he confesses.

- “I … but why?"

- "You’re very kind and very cute. You share your daydreams with me and I cherish them.”

- “But my lord–!”

- “There’s no need to call me that.”

- “But—”

- Gavin gives a soft pat on her head. “I’m still your Chirpy.”

- “But I don’t think I can treat you like a bird friend anymore,” she reasons. “This is such a big change!”

- “It’s okay there’s no need. You could maybe treat me as something more?” he suggests wistfully.

- The girl blinks. “Huh??”

- “When you talked about the man from that stormy night…you said he was charming. Does that still hold true?”

- Slowly, he holds her close, just like when they were sleeping together that night.

- The girl becomes a blushing mess. As she tries to fumble for an answer, he slowly leans in and kisses her causing her to melt against him.

- After a long moment, he pulls away. “A storm is coming. I’ll take you back to your home…if you like.”

- The girl nods, determined to hide her sheepishness. “Of course! That would be nice! Well, you know you could stay over …if you like.”

-Now he’s a blushy mess awww
