Created by the always cinematic, always cheeky music video duo, @bradleyandpablo , Lil Nas takes us through a nostalgic romp with references to Saw, Blade, and The Matrix. I’m a sucker for vampires, so I immediately love the 2000s goth aesthetic of this video, and it shows Lil Nas X’s range going from cowboy, to sci-fi boy, and now a Matrix vampire. It’s also great that Lil Nas and Big Nas agreed to work together, and made that happen for us. I love seeing Lil Nas X ignore the haters, enjoy his fame, and still have fun with his music. I’ll be honest, I don’t speak Spanish so I don’t listen to Bad Bunny or know much about him, but he is an interesting character and I love when goth culture meshes with other styles. @colinseyes directs this video with aggressive dance choreography, and dark themes with an almost early 2000s music video vibe. Shot on the Greek island Mykonos, the stark white and blue landscape is splashed with the red and black darkness of this Spanish goth gang. I don’t think anyone can deny that the American rock band, OK Go has some of the most incredible music videos out there. From zero gravity, to coordinated printers, to super slo mo, they raise the bar on themselves with each new video. My favorite is not their most amazing, but it is definitely the cutest. “White Knuckles” ⠀
Like most of OK Go’s videos, it is one-take, featuring a highly choreographed dance with some very tell trained pups. This video, along with many other OK Go videos, is directed by @bigbadtrish who must love a challenge. Choreographing all those dogs to go exactly to the right place at the right time is amazing and super impressive to me. What good pups! As 2019 comes to a close, I have to give credit to the biggest music trend of 2019, which is K-Pop, and I’m giving this final Music Video Monday of 2019 to BLACKPINK - ‘Kill This Love'⠀
While I personally only dabble in K-pop, there is no denying that it is the top growing genre and has finally become mainstream in America (including BTS dolls in 7-11). As of this post, Kill This Love has 693,893,603 million views and is catchy AF. K-pop features the most spectacular videos in the world, and Kill This Love is no exception. Each individual and group set-up has incredible, colorful, and artistic sets with different moods and themes for each. If you haven’t gotten into K-pop yet, I recommend you start with 'Kill This Love.’ ⠀
