At U.S. Ping-Pong Open, Orthodox Estee Ackerman Ranks 6th

Keeping up with 13 year old Estee Ackerman takes work. After being named one of our Orthodox Jewish All Stars last year (here) she has only gained momentum. Estee is now ranked 6th for Cadet girls (15 years and under) for table tennis in the United States. She got this ranking after competing in the winter U.S. Nationals. The winter is a rough time for a teenage ping-pong champ, because training often takes a backseat to schoolwork. The U.S. Open, however, takes place during the summer – leaving Estee endless hours to train. It’s a good thing too, for the Open is made up of 100 events with 1100 people from 35 different countries.

First pitch is at 7:15. Below is the Nats’ lineup.

1. Denard Span CF
2. Steve Lombardozzi LF
3. Ryan Zimmerman 3B

The Nationals were swept out of Baltimore in a 2-0 defeat ending the 2-game series last night and begin a 3-game series in Atlanta tonight. Stephen Strasburg will take the mound tonight in an attempt to get the Nats back on the right foot in a VERY IMPORTANT series. The last thing the Nats need is to be down 8.5 games to the Barves after this weekend.

And don’t look for Davey Johnson to make any major lineup changes tonight. Danny Espinosa–who can’t seem to catch a break at the plate to save his life–will remain at second base. Tyler Moore heads to the bench tonight and in his place will be Tyler Moore in left field. Still no Bryce Harper or Jayson Werth who are still out for injuries.

Tonight’s lineup won’t lend to much confidence to those looking for a way to beat the Barves. It all rests on the shoulders of Stephen Strasburg to pitch a game that will allow a minimal offensive effort from the Nats to get a Curly W.

First pitch is at 7:35. Below is tonight’s lineup.

1. Denard Span CF
2 Steve Lombardozzi LF
3. Ryan Zimmerman 3B
4. Adam LaRoche 1B
5. Ian Desmond SS
6. Roger Bernadina RF
7. Danny Espinosa 2B
8. Kurt Suzuki C
9. Stephen Strasburg RHP

The Nationals defeat the Orioles 9-3!

Bryce Harper ran into the right field wall last night at Dodgers Stadium. The video of him hitting the wall (below) is horrific. The accident cost him 11 stitches to the chin and a jammed shoulder. Fortunately there was no concussion.

As Denard Span put it:

“As the ball kept going, I was like, ‘Is he going to stop?’ He looked like he didn’t get a good jump at all, like he was surprised the ball was hit to him. I thought he was going to jump and brace himself. As soon as he ran into it, his body locked up. You could tell he didn’t know where he was at. He just kept asking me, 'Is it bad? Is it bad?”

The Nats are now on a 5-game winning streak as Stephen Strasburg takes the mound to face off against former teammate Edwin Jackson and the Chicago Cubs.

Bryce Harper will sit out again today due to an ingrown toe nail. He should return tomorrow. Werth is now on the DL and Eury Perez is expected to join the big league club from Triple-A Syracuse this weekend.

First pitch today is at 4:05 PM. Full Nats lineup is below.

1. Denard Span CF
2. Roger Bernadina RF
3. Ryan Zimmerman 3B
4. Adam LaRoche 1B
5. Ian Desmond SS
6. Danny Espinosa 2B
7. Tyler Moore LF
8. Wilson Ramos C
9. Stephen Strasburg P
