I had the idea to combine a classic 8 bit game with one NSFW animation during this week, the results are good enough for me to publish this but this is just the begining!

Something new I did for Pixel Dailies’s#PixelRemaster challenge. The challenge consisted on redrawing a screenshot from Ninja Gaiden’s iconicopening scene. Ninja Gaiden is another game and franchise I love a lot, so even if I did it in a hurry, since I have been a little bit busy lately, I didn’t want to miss the chance of giving it a try.
This time I went for a Game BoyandGame Boy Color inspired look.
Ryu Hayabusa from the Ninja Gaiden series. Small pixel art work I did some time ago for a Pokemon rom hackcalledVidyamon, that would feature characters from different video games franchises as the little monsters.
I like that Ryu was humanized in Ninja Gaiden: Razor’s Edge. It showed a different side of him that you have rarely seen, but still kept what makes him the Dragon Ninja.
I hope if there’s the 4th installment, follow what NG3 did but even better.
You’re one of the few times i’ve read someone say this much! Lots of people actually don’t like that installment for that reason.
People only see characters like Ryu as a killing machine. They don’t pay attention that this person is still a human being with the same emotions as other people. He just suppresses his emotions a lot. I mean it isn’t like he cried in the game.
Just regretful for not saving one child.
You see the same regret from him for not saving his childhood friend, Kureha.
But at least this time who was able to save those he grow to care about.
For the most part, he was happy about it.
The game wasn’t perfect but neither were the other two installments. But I say this version of Ryu is my favorite. Plus we got a smile out of him.
Yeah, it’s kind of disturbing how people much rather reduce his character to a killing machine rather than explore….well…literally anything. People were also really against Ryu having any approach to fatherhood. If you ask me, they’re virtually asking for the franchise to grow stagnant.
Both Razor’s Edge & Sigma 2 are my favorites in the NG franchise because they bothered exploring something about Ryu. In the second game, I also found it interesting that when collecting lore materials, you learn the bad guys you’re killing….WELL, they think YOURE the bad guy. They also embroidered in petty drama themselves, ninja politics, AND they have this hero worship of Genshin that’s just both funny & kind of cute. The third game has Regent of the Mask & LOA, probably the only threats in the franchise Ryu couldn’t cut away & had his number a few times even….which was refreshing to see him struggle. It made his ultimate triumph even better.
Thank you!! Finally, someone looking into this with the same lens. You’re speaking facts! I hope they do continue with humanizing Ryu because he isn’t heartless as people think.
Just reading the Youtube comments about NG3 irritates me. Because they couldn’t picture Ryu anymore than the Dragon Ninja. Lol
I like Sigma 2 version better than NG2. The same with Sigma 1, I think they connected the dots better in those versions, especially with Rachel’s side quests, as well the other women.

The Ninja Gaiden fandom definitely has toxic elements regarding the female characters; people will find any excuse to bash them, pointing out the obvious fact the gameplay isn’t as catered to them as Ryu (like that’s a fault of the characters) and claiming they’re there for fan service (supporting characters don’t exist I guess). But you know it’s not genuine because they suddenly “care” for female portrayal enough to not want them “reduced” to that. It
There’s even mods out there to skip the female driven chapters.
If they want to talk about fanservice. Then they might as wall talked about Ryu. He has the most butt shots in the series. Lol
Gaiden means side story, and who’s story this is? Yes, Ryu Hayabusa’s story. So what’s the problem that the game is focused more on the protagonist? And not supporting characters, plus everyone knows the female in the series is badass.
