Im Very Pleased to share this website my partner directed me to. You’re interested in retro techand/or robotics, The Old Robots is a unique and surprisingly thorough archive of all sorts of real robots from as early as the 1940’s to as late as the 2000’s. I especially love the dated nature of its aesthetics. But, seriously- there’s pages and pages worth of these robots. Many robots also include videos embedded in the site to show them in action.

An excellent resource for those interested in robotics, the history of robots, robotic toys, or just goofs like me that love to see little funny hard metal and plastic fellas.

haven’t seen anyone else mention this here but seven seas is unionizing. there’s been a lot of discussion of the problems with the official eng tl of the mxtx books and it seems at least somewhat likely that the work environment described in the full statement has something to do with the state of the final product. anyways, regardless of what media properties 7S distributes that you’re familiar with, this is a huge step for a publishing/distribution/TL house and i hope other workplaces facing similar issues in the industry are able to follow suit

I’m gonna borrow this lovely gif by @stedebonny (you’ll find the complete gifset here) to scream over how well ed picks up on a tiny social cue some viewers haven’t even noticed

I love this so so much and can’t shut up about it!

people often say ed didn’t have the courage to kiss stede when in reality he decidedto back off for stede’s sake

the gif is a bit slower than the original show so here you can clearly see how ed immediately reacts to stede:

they’re standing there in the bright moonlight, staring into each other’s eyes. ed is gathering all his courage, straightening his back, and then takes a step towards stede, clearly intending to kiss that wonderful man who had just given him the most beautiful compliment ed’s ever received, completing this incredibly romantic moment

how does stede react though? he has absolutely NO idea what’s going on and you can clearly see it on his profile: eyebrows raised, mouth open. stede’s clearly confused. he doesn’t realize what situation he is in. after all, no one’s ever shown interest in him like this before

and ed immediately ‘aborts mission‘ the moment he understands that they’re not on the same page, not in the same mood. stede doesn’t step towards ed, doesn’t lean in, nothing. he’s not thereyet. so ed breaks the tension with his little “okay” but still fulfills his own desire to touch stede with a friendly pat on the shoulder - physical touch being his love language as we all know

this scene is basically ed’s italic ‘oh’ moment but while he’s falling hard enough to get a concussion, stede’s falling slowly and softly like a feather, not even realising that what he’s feeling is romantic love for his ‘new best friend Ed‘

just ed being mindful of stede’s feelings in this scene is so fucking beautiful

jasonpym:

The vast majority (around 80%) of Chinese characters are made up of a radical (the general meaning) and a phonetic.

Radical 女 nǚ (woman) and phonetic 馬 mǎ (horse) = 媽 mā, mother (your mum sounds like a horse).

But a small minority are pictograms, that is to say a picture of the thing they represent.

Pictograms are the earliest characters, thousands of years old, but many are still used every day.

If you look at the oracle bone script for rat, tiger and elephant you’ll see they are clearly pictures of the animal they signify.

But if you look at the modern versions, you’ll notice something odd, they’re all rotated 90 degrees onto their sides.

Why? Why are all these characters written with the animals balancing on their tails?

Well, it’s for a straight-forward, practical reason.

For a couple thousand years before paper was invented writing materials were limited. We had silk (expensive), bronze (expensive and impractical), and oracle bones (religious use only).

And one more…

That was cheap, plentiful, durable, and easy to erase and rewrite characters. The wonder that is…

Bamboo!

It was cut into strips, and tied into books. Long thin strips of bamboo contributed to the Chinese custom of writing vertically, from top to bottom (and right to left).

But it also meant that it’s much easier to write some characters length-ways so that they easily fit onto the strip.

So that’s it, mystery solved. That’s why a lot of Chinese picture characters are written at a right angle.

I spent a about an hour this weekend rummaging through my hard drive to find all the props I did for The Mitchell’s vs The Machine… and I Found a Lot! Here is the first batch. Most of these are from an early camp site set that I designed which got fully built out in 3d as our first test environment but never made it into the film due to story changes. This was like, within my first 2 or 3 months on the movie. The last image is the fully 3 version of the cut campsite set. More props to come

unsurprisingly Kellan’s work brings me so much joy

back in december @purekesseltrash finished an AMAZING fantasy soulmates au focusing on Shouji and Tokoyami from My Hero Acadamia. I’d been meaning to do some art for this and I finally had a bit of time to get this done! there’s so many little details in this picture, let’s see if you can spot them all after reading the fic.

When We Fall Asleep by Bellsastuff

“On a cold, blustery winter night, two boys, nearly full grown, would fight. They could not be more different, one a hermit priest for his cold and lonely village, the other a librarian in the bustling capital city. But when a hand was blocked by a palm and skin met skin, both of their lives would become irrevocably intertwined as ancient bonds would seek to be renewed.”

its pride month AND indigenous history month so if ur thinking about buying lgbt books (or books in general) consider buying from red planet books and comics, which is a comic store (the only comic store actually) owned by a team of native ppl. you can get queer indigenous studies, jonny appleseed, indigiqueer fiction anthology, and a collection of two spirit literature. you can also order alison bechdel, molly ostertag, marvel or dc comics, star wars novels, margaret atwood and a ton of other things! if there’s a graphic novel or book you’ve been eyeing, it’d be cool if you gave them a browse to see if they have it :)

One of my favourite pop culture useless pieces of information that I know is the fact that trends in horror movies can tell you about the general fears of the world at any given time in cinematic history.

Sorta!

1940s - You have people still alive that remember Jack the Ripper, you have the Axeman of New Orleans and two world wars. The classics are being made for shock escapism and dark stalkers are also popular (usually trusting people turning out to be the enemy).

1950s - post-nuclear bomb. Giant monsters, or unknown blobs are the trend.

1970s/1980s - modern era begins, and serial killers are becoming known and prominent. Slasher films are the trend. The Cold War also drives the fear of invasion, so a few alien films come out in this time.

1990s - a horror movie lull, and lull in wars and disturbances.

2000s - fear of invasions and biological warfare. Zombie movies become the trend.

Here you go! It’s just a random article, but it’s a fun starting point. It outlines the ideas better than what I did above. Fears, politics etc all play a role.

Yesterday I made a Wookiepedia themed character sheet, and then today I turned it into a PDF you can type in bc I’m actually loosing my mind-

ANYWAY! Here’s the link to the document, save yourself a copy and create away!!! (Mahalo to my beloved friend for making this link!)

The file should look something like this but you’ll need to save it to a Google drive or something in order to edit it:

Each heading has a text box below it, and so does the statistics on the side! There’s also a place for a quote on the top, just like on Wookiepedia. As well as a place for a picture.

This took 5 hours and I’m so unbelievably proud of it! I hope it can help you guys have fun with your ocs!

If you credit me, please just type “@/queen-breha-organa” , if I get too many mentions it might just destroy my notifications hajsjjsjs

Okay I’ve changed my mind I don’t care if it crashed my notifications please just tag me I wanna see it- peoples ocs make me so happy especially peoples self inserts and I need the joy-
