I barely recognize him in old photos now. Face completely BLACK and a nice slender waist. XD He’s not fat now, I promise, it’s just his belly skin hanging. If you see him from above, he’s skinny. (And if he were a girl, I doubt he would have that belly skin hanging, if you get me…)

My darling pup Lucy, who we had to put down 2 weeks after this was taken. The rainbow in this has always brought me comfort.

New Blog Post! It is the time of year for resolutions. It is also an opportunity to name the ways in which we hope to become the best versions of ourselves. One of my hopes is that all of us aspire to never stop learning new things.
I chose this picture because it reflects so much of what I was trying to get across. The world can be cruel. It can really ware us down over time. But I hope to never let it steal my sense of joy and wonder. I’m just learning from the best old man I know.

Darling old girl
This is the last picture I took of my friend Harley. He was 16 years old, deaf, and grumpy, but he loved me. Now I have to figure out how to get through my days without him. My chair is too big, I don’t know where to put my hand (it was always on the dog), I don’t have anyone to sit on my clothes when they come out of the dryer, I had to throw away the rest of the toast I couldn’t finish, I had to try and sleep without his snoring and scratching. This is going to be hard.

Our old friend Polly (16) is staying with us this week. I loved how she looked sunbathing here, so I broke out the chalk pastels.

Behind her is a plant stand containing bright pink and purple trailing tradescantia and a spider plant, with some drooping monstera leaves framing her back in the foreground.
