obsessed with stories where you can never go home

you can never go home because you fell asleep for a thousand years and when you woke up and returned there, your society had changed, your house had fallen and all of your friends were dead. you can never go home because you made a choice and were shattered into pieces and your home was destroyed in your wake. you can never go home because someone took you and changed you against your will and although your home is the same, the person who belonged there is dead. you can never go home because you committed a crime and your family expelled you and even as they extend a hand of reconciliation, you will never forgive them. you can never go home because your home was a person and someone murdered her and now you drift and grieve to the point of insanity. you can never go home because you never knew your sister but she gave you every opportunity you have and now she’s dead and your parents see nothing but her in your eyes.

what if the observants are all one “organism” (insofar as ghosts are organisms), like an ant hive

they don’t seem to have individual personalities at all

wouldn’t it be cool if they have a sort of hive mind and the individual “observants” are essentially the mobile eyes of the thing

like under their courtroom thing there’s just this massive brain or eyeball or something that connects them all and is central locus of the whole operation

Gamer AU

Seriously, Bittle. You’ve got great map awareness, good shotcalling and your mechanics are clean… you’ve just got this stupid mental block about going for kills. If that’s the only thing holding you back, we’re going to practice kill lanes until you’re a true bloodthirsty support. Just trust me, okay?

no sorry I can’t shut up about this it’s so great

  • bitty joining the group after holster found him on twitch
  • most of them pretty much playing for fun except jack who is super serious about winning the world championship
  • jack disliking gaming youtube channels and doesn’t get tags and challenges and only streams because the guys make him
  • jack being a really bad streamer because he gives zero shits about entertainment but is still super popular because he’s crazy good
  • jack resenting bitty for being One Of Those Gaming Youtubers and dragging the boys into filming with him
  • bitty resenting jack for being so popular even though he has no appreciation for how hard most people have to work for it
  • bitty still living in georgia and jack still living in canada and basically the group’s interactions are all via late night skype sessions
  • bitty and jack relentlessly chirping each other on streams to the point where it starts attracting a whole different type of audience
  • jack coaching bitty and bitty refining jack’s gaming style and both of them reluctantly growing to acknowledge that they make each other better players
  • this post is a mess I just need this like I need breathing

The evil stepmother is a fixture in European fairy tales because the stepmother was very much a fixture in early European society–mortality in childbirth was very high, and it wasn’t unusual for a father to suddenly find himself alone with multiple mouths to feed. So he remarried and brought another woman into the house, and eventually they had yet more children, thus changing the power dynamics of inheritance in the household in a way that had very little to do with inherent, archetypal evil and everything to do with social expectation and pressure. What was a woman to do when she remarried into a family and had to act as mother to her husband’s children as well as her own, in a time when economic prosperity was a magical dream for most? Would she think of killing her husband’s children so that her own children might therefore inherit and thrive? […] Perhaps. Perhaps not. But the fear that stepmothers (or stepfathers) might do this kind of thing was very real, and it was that fear–fed by the socioeconomic pressures felt by the growing urban class–that fed the stories.

We see this also with the stories passed around in France–fairies who swoop in to save the day when women themselves can’t do so; romantic tales of young girls who marry beasts as a balm to those young ladies facing arranged marriages to older, distant dukes. We see this with the removal of fairies and insertion of religion into the German tales. Fairy tales, in short, are not created in a vacuum. As with all stories, they change and bend both with and in response to culture.

(source) alienoid is gonna be at cannes! i’m so excited for this movie the premise is so cool and original!! aliens having prisoners locked in human minds and a time gate being opened to stop them from escaping is so interesting.

korean sci fi never had the budget to pull off blockbusters like this before which is why space sweepers was such a big deal. v excited to see how this movie expands the genre! the standard “global” view of south korea is in finding charm in the anachronism between korean traditional culture and its present day high tech urban culture so this movie will be a rly cool take on it, mixing the goryeo era aesthetics and characters with a skorean take on sci fi blockbuster when it’s barely been done before.

Okay, don’t get me wrong here. I LOVE Jurassic Park. I love seeing their dinosaurs. But after watching Prehistoric Planet, and going back to look at this…

And then looking at this…

Notice how much healthier the second set looks? Their lips cover their teeth, they actually have fat on their bodies, their skin doesn’t wrinkle like they’re dehydrated. You can’t see every single tendon and muscle move because you aren’t supposed to. Dinosaurs are animals, not reptilian body-builders.

THIS is the kind of change I want to see in how we create realistic depictions of not only dinosaurs, but all prehistoric creatures. Paleoart has always had a huge issue with shrink-wrapping and making these animals look terrifying instead of making them look like, well, animals.

Well done, BBC.
