OH ALSO idk if anybody’s brought this up cuz i just read the chapter this morning but

this basically confirms something i had sort of figured for a long time - this is why the only devil fruits we’ve seen inanimate objects “eat” are zoans. obviously, you need a mind of some sort to use a devil fruit, and because the zoans have a mind of their own, you can combine them with inanimate objects to give said objects sentience so that they can use the power.
