One of the most notorious hotels in the world is the Cecil Hotel. It is not famous for its glitz and glamour; Instead it is known for its many mysterious deaths, abnormally high record of suicides, infamous guests, for being a popular spot to deal and use drugs, and for being the perfect place to lie low for those who have committed crimes. It is was also the inspiration to the American Horror Story season five, Hotel.
The Cecil Hotel was built in 1924 in Downtown Los Angeles. It cost 1.5 million dollars to build, with a total of 2.5 million being invested into it. The hotel boasted 19 floors and 700 guest rooms. However, despite intentions for the hotel to be a fancy and popular destination for the wealthy and famous, it started to gradually decline once the Great Depression hit. Despite this, it managed to remain a popular destination throughout the 1940s. After this decade it began to rapidly decline as the area, now known as Skid Row, became populated with homeless people, drug addicts and dealers, and others who have committed serious crimes.
Unlike other hotels, the Cecil Hotel boasts a high number of suicides, murders, and mysterious deaths. The first suicide to take place was that of Percy Ormond Cook in 1927. He shot himself in the head while inside of his hotel room after failing to make up with his wife and child. After him was W.K. Norton. Norton killed himself in 1931 in his room after taking poison capsules. Other deaths were from jumping from high rooms, poison capsules, gunshots to the head, and slitting their own throat. A more disturbing death was that of Dorthy Purcells newborn son. Purcell shared a room with her boyfriend, Ben Levine, who was unaware that she was pregnant. While there she went into labor. Not wanting to wake her boyfriend, she went into the bathroom where she gave birth to a boy. She thought he was dead and threw him out of the window. Purcell was charged with murder, but was not found guilty due to being declared insane. Another tragic suicide was that of Pauline Otton. She jumped from her 9th story window and landed on a pedestrian. The pedestrian, George Gianinni, was killed instantly.
Other than suicides, there have been other tragic and mysterious deaths. “Pidgon Goldie” Osgood was found raped, stabbed and beaten in her room. Hours later, Jaques Ehlinger was seen walking around in bloodstained clothing. Although, he was arrested for her murder, he was later release. It is still an unsolved crime. Finally, one of the most recent and famous deaths to occur at the Cecil Hotel was that of Elisa Lam. Lam went missing for several weeks. The only clue they had to her whereabouts was a surveillance video of her getting on to an elevator and acting strange. She seemed paranoid, hiding in the corner of the elevator, and peeking nervously around its edges. Despite Lam having pushed several buttons to multiple floors, the elevator remained stationary with the doors open. At one point Lam was seen getting out of the elevator and gesturing wildly, as if having a confrontation with someone. Almost three weeks from the date she had gone missing, guests began to complain of the water in their rooms tasting funny. It was then that they found Lams decomposing body in one of the water supply tanks. Although she was inexplicably naked, there were no signs of foul play. Authorities believe that the fact that Elisa was Bipolar could have played a large part in her death. In some cases, those with Bipolar, who are not taking their meds, can have hallucinations and experience other disturbing symptoms. Her death was ruled and accidental drowning.
The Cecil Hotel had also played home to two well known serial killers. The first, was Richard Ramirez. Most commonly known as the “Night Stalker,” Ramirez was rumored to have stayed at the Cecil for a few weeks. It is believed that during his stay he may have continued with his killing spree. The second serial killer to stay there was an Austrian man known as Jack Unterweger. Unterweger stayed at the Cecil in 1991. He may have sought to copy Ramirez’s crimes. While staying at the Cecil he strangled and killed at least three sex workers
Surprisingly there seems to be very little claims online that there are ghosts at the Cecil Hotel. However, when Ghost Adventures went to investigate they claim they were physically scratched. They also found compelling audio and video evidence.

Located in Cedar Grove, New Jersey are the remains of what was the Essex County Hospital Center, AKA the Overbrook Asylum. The building was built around 1896 as a general hospital who’s intentions were to take on some of the overcrowding that was happening in the nearby Newark hospital. Although intentions were good, the hospital still experienced some of its fair share of tragedy. In the winter of 1917 the hospitals boilers failed. The result was that 24 patients froze to death in their beds. Eventually, in the mid 1920’s the hospital was changed into a mental institution. Run at full capacity, the facility could host thousands of patients. Unfortunately treatment was often brutal, including electric shock therapy and lobotomies among other things. The facility was so large it had its own train stop on the Caldwell Branch of the Earie Railroad. Patients mainly grew their own food. It is rumored that during WWII, overcrowding was so dire that 150 patients simply disappeared. As medications developed and became used more frequently, the hospital found that it had less patients. Eventually the hospital closed in 2007 and has since been demolished.
Prior to demolition, its abandoned status did not stop urban explorers and ghosts hunters from frequenting the old site. When the Travel Channel’s Ghost adventures visited they found shadow figures, strange orbs, and a disembodied voice saying “Help me.” It is also rumored that during filming of the movie “Choke”, interns found the remains of Satanic sacrifices. One crew member refused to enter the building because he repeatedly saw a nurse in an old fashioned uniform walking around the building.
A Hugag is a large, mooselike animal that is said to roam northern Minnesota, western Wisconsin, and the wilds of Canada. Unlike the moose, this animal does not have antlers and also lacks any joints in its legs. It has a long upper lip which prevents it from grazing. Its head and neck are completely hairless and have a leathery appearance. The Hugag has four toes and, despite being hairless on the head and neck, a shaggy coat. The only way a Hugag can rest itself is if it leans against a tree, since it cannot lay down due to its lack of joints. It eats pine needles, twigs and bark. Some accounts state that the Hugag oozes pine sap since it eats so many pine needles.

One of the most fearsome creatures to roam the forest is the Hidebehind. The Hidebehind is a nocturnal creature who is known for its ability to conceal itself when spotted. If someone tries to look at the Hidebehind, it will hide behind an object or the observer themselves. It uses this ability to prey upon humans at night. The Hidebehind is believed to be the cause of the mysterious disappearances of early colonial loggers and others who frequent the forest. It uses its ablility to stalk its prey. Once a human is captured they are dragged back to the Hidebehinds lair to be eaten. This creature loves eating the intestines of the victim, but hates alcohol. Alcohol is the only known deterrent for this creature. Located in Staffordshire England is an area of forest known as Cannock Chase. Cannock Chase not only has a dark history, but has also been known for its supernatural sightings. With murders, ghosts, UFOs, a black eyed girl, black dogs, werewolves, big cats, Bigfoot, Slenderman, and even a pig man, visitors to the forest will definitely not fall short of paranormal experiences.
In the mid 1960s, a series of tragic murders took place within Cannock Chase. The first was that of 9 year old Julia Taylor, who was lured into a car by a man claiming to be a friend of her mother. Her body was later discovered by a passing cyclist. The next two murders were Margaret Reynolds, who was only 6, and Diana Joytift who was only 5. They were found together in a ditch. The final victim was 7 year old Christine Darby found beneath brushwood Fortunately in 1968, after a 10 year old escaped from a man trying to force her into his car, police were able to obtain a license plate number. This, and evidence found in his home, led to the arrest of Raymond Morris. He was convicted and later died at HMP Preston Health Facility.
Whether related to the murders or not, the area is well known for sightings of a black eyed girl. Usually black eyed children, who resemble children except for their our black eyes, are found hitchhiking or standing at your front door, asking for help. No one knows what happens if you help them. However at Cannock Chase, visitors have reported seeing a black eyed girl after hearing strange laughter emanating through the forest. Another visitor reported seeing the girl after hearing screaming.
People have also reported sightings of a pigman on the area. Legend has it that during WWII scientists conducted a series of bizarre experiments. Supposedly they abducted a woman and hypnotized her. They then impregnated her with human-pig DNA seed. The purpose of this was to create a creature that the scientist could experiment on. An entire year later, after they assumed the experiment had failed, the woman gave birth. It was no normal baby. The baby had the head of a pig. Later on the creature disappeared into the woods of Cannock Chase. Now people report seeing a man with the head of a pig creeping around.
I had a vivid dream of a ghost, I couldn’t see it but it would manifest as great fears people have. Near the end of the dream I was tasked with killing it, so it appeared to me as a cat to make it harder for me to kill it (I love cats). I fought with it and it obviously scratched me up and fought back. I never ended up being able to kill it before I woke up.
When I woke up, I had to go to the bathroom so I got straight up and went into the restroom. I looked in the mirror, and saw this on my chest. It faded alittle before I could take the photo but you can still see it.
One of the creepiest phenomenon’s on the planet is that of Doppelgangers. A Doppelganger is an exact double of a person. Some call it an evil twin. It is also known in Irish folklore as a Fetch. It is generally thought that seeing a Doppelganger is an omen of bad luck.
For example, in 1617 John Donne, a famous poet, saw the Doppelganger of his wife while she was away having a baby Only later he found out she had given birth to a still born child.
Other famous examples include Catherine the Great. One evening while she was lying in her bed, a number of servants came in and frantically told her they had just seen her walking into the throne room. Not long after she suffered a stroke, which eventually killed her a couple days later.
Elizabeth I had a similar experience. She went into her chambers one night only to find herself already lying in bed. This double appeared deathly ill. Only a few days later Elizabeth herself died.
Finally, Abraham Lincoln described an experience in which he went to look at himself in the mirror, only to find a Doppelganger looking back at him. Purportedly the image looking back at him did not match up to his own reflection. It looked pale and sickly. When he told his wife about it, she claimed it meant he was going to be elected for a second term in office, but would not live to see the end of it. She was right.
