Silly Symphony - The Ugly Duckling directed by Jack Cutting, 1939

The Ugly Duckling model sheet label as RS-8 concentrates on the various poses of the Mother Swan. Notes include: Taper base of neck from body to avoid snake-like appearance, Carry shadow separations on swans as indicated, and Keep feet rather large. Comparative profiles of the adult and baby swan are drawn on the bottom left corner to indicate the size differences.

The sheet lines up the responsibility of the staff: Jack Cutting as the director, George Stallings responsible for story, Hamilton S. “Ham” Luske manages the animators and Dave Hilberman in charge of the layout.

The Walt Disney Studios finalized characters by stamping the approval block at the right corner, including the initials of director David Hand, story man George Stallings, animators Frank Thomas and Bernie Wolf “B.W.”, and color supervisor Philip Dike. Measures 10" x 12".

An original production model sheet printed on paper with the dimensions of 9.5” x 13.5”. The sepia-tone model sheet is titled “Cock of the Walk S-31” featuring the short’s female lead, Prunella Pullet. The initials “T.W.” are attributed by Disney’s publicity artist Tom Wood.
