Janis Joplin joined the Grateful Dead at the Fillmore West on this day in 1969. Janis performed a powerful 20-minute “Lovelight” alongside her friend Pigpen.
Although there aren’t many known photos from this particular night, here’s a photograph of Pigpen and Janis outside of 710 Ashbury in 1967 by Ronald Rakow.
