I adore these three men. To me, they are such a beautiful running thread through the series. The scholarly Roman forced into taking up the mantle of the wise and responsible leader, the lost soul stolen and rescued for luxury only to be lost again, and the boy, curious to a fault who became a ruined thing. For their blood line to come full circle and for Daniel, the one who started it all, the crux on which The Vampire Chronicles begins, to become the beloved companion to Marius, while both love and mourn for and reunite with Armand in their ways, how broken Marius leaves Armand, how broken Armand leaves Daniel, it’s the most beautiful and frightful trio.

The comic re-draws never end, huh?

Well, in this one, I’ve done the impossible: make Lestat look fuckable in a circa-1985 mullet and vest like this. I’ll be waiting for my award. 

Also, if you’ve read the comic, you’ll notice that I’ve redesigned two of the members of the band to adhere to MY personal vision of them. The tall one with the black hair is the only one who was bang-on the way he was. 

Another major departure from the comic was the red background and a slightly more devious expression on Lestat’s face. The original illustration was giving me vibes inconsistent with the actual gist of the story. It looked like Lestat was teaching the band how to sing “Top of the World” by the Carpenters. Trust me on this. 

Louis has tolerated some serious shit from Lestat, but even the slightest criticism of his audio-book will result in an instant, no-questions-asked exile to the cold, lonely couch. Better luck next time, Lestat! 

Technically a comic re-draw, because this figure of Lestat comes from the concert scene, even if I didn’t do the whole panel. It’s like a poster!

In using a “clap light,” Louis just conveniently clapped us into a much improved color palette. (The previous pages, in my opinion, really REALLY sucked so I did some tinkering.)

As Lestat flips his shit over the thought of his Beautiful One yanking his crank to his pampered head of blonde hair, let Louis sweetly explain to you the merits of his “Top 10” lubes.

In the final pages of the Vampire Chronicles (”Blood Communion”), Lestat thinks of Nicki as he dances with Louis.
