“Video game crossovers that couldve been so much better if they weren’t just minigame collections” starterpack

inthetags:

reblog and put in the tags any franchises where the main character is your favorite character. it seems like the central protagonist is never the fan favorite so i’m curious.

Ok, one last post before I go on vacation. Work in progress of this prototype for an upcoming articulatable Emperor Nefarious figure :)

He’ll have interchangeable hands too! So, I’m basically making a model kit xD

Yes, I will be selling it on my Etsy!

Will continue working on him in about 2 weeks, when I get back home :)

I got two Dr. Nefariouses and painted one to fit his new look.

Here are close ups of the face before and after:

I tried making a fake poster for a sequel where the Emperor returns and wants revenge- starting with the doctor who betrayed him.

AKA, Dr. Nefarious becomes the damsel in distress and his butler must call our hereos to save his boss…

I’m selling my Nefaries Egg cups on my Etsy! :)
My Etsy

I know the shipping is a bit expensive (DHL Germany raised their prices rip) but if you choose the ‘both’ option, you only have to pay the shipping price for one egg cup :D You could also paint them and just display them as figures haha, the plastic eggs are included :D

comparing Dr. Nefarious’s model from A Crack In Time with All 4 One and damn, they really twinkified him

I have no idea what I’m doing in blender. This shots look KINDA interesting? But they’re definitely very simple and I’m wondering if I should try to color his 3D model… Of course I’d have to learn how to do that first skdks

I made this at 3 AM

Took an hour of my spare time.
Drawing Ratchet and Clank with my usual style using ink brushes makes it look like a manga. I need to keep drawing them like this.

Drawing that little R&C comic I discarded made me realize I appreciate the IP much more in concept than in execution. Like, I can imagine a lot of situations with these characters thanks to their characterization and stories but nothing the games have ever tried to do. The games are good for the most part and it has a thing to it that while it’s obviously a product of its time it doesn’t get old, kind of like Star Wars but much more cartoony.

But it very often stumbles in many areas, especially in relation to worldbuilding, the writing of its characters (Ratchet particularly) and the general story. Maybe its due to its nature as a game and as property for kids (despite of the themes of mass genocide, imperialism and whatnot) those aspects don’t seem to be of particular relevance, and it’s a shame because it has the potential to be much more. Even people I know who are very serious or simply not into this stuff have opened up to the characters and the universe they inhabit once they get to experience it.

And given how a premise from 2007 hasn’t gone anywhere for the last decade and a lot of consistency has been lost along the way it wouldn’t be too drastic to ask for a reboot that fixes all the little problems that have accumulated over time. Such as the lombax tails, Ratchet being the last lombax despite of meeting Angela before, the whole thing with the alternate dimensions, giving more participation to neglected characters, suddenly giving Ratchet and Clank much bigger backgrounds in late entries when it wasn’t previously established and a long etc. Oh, but wait, they already made a reboot but it didn’t turn out well because it was handled by many different writers during the production.

*Sigh* I don’t know. It goes to show how this series has been quite mishandled despite of all the creativity and imaginative designs it has. I often wonder what it could have been if it did a bit more of this instead of that.

A couple of pages for a comic about R&C I was working on that I ultimately discarded.

It feels a little strange to work with characters that are not my own, in a narrative sense I mean. There’s not much we know about these characters outside the games and I’d be assuming a lot of things about them if I were to write them, they’d end up being more like my interpretation of them instead of them being who they “really” are. I know that seems very obvious but I’m not one to project insecurities and feelings on existing characters when there’s simply no certainty, if that’s the way they would act or not.

Of course, it’s not a great infringement or anything, especially when it’s pretty harmless stuff, but I still can’t shake that feeling off. I suppose I’m doing it out of respect for these fictional entities, or maybe I’m just insecure.

Just a lil’ sketch.

I initially got into Rift Apart expecting I would like Rivet more than Ratchet but I ended up prefering him and his whole background with Clank once I got more invested in the series, how curious.
