No matter how hard he tried, Tom could not make out what you were doing. The array of sounds around him was confusing, and his own fidgeting did not help. What he could hear were your giggles. You were clearly amused by his current predicament.

“I’m gonna be ready soon, my sweet.” You kissed his head.

Tom whimpered softly, and took a deep breath. Blindfolded and ordered to remain on his knees, hands behind his back, there was not much else he could do but wait.

Reader POV:

The hot June sun shines down on me, my boyfriend, and his dog as we walk into the public gardens of Boston, Massachusetts. It’s a beautiful day, as most days are this time of year in Massachusetts. I think back to a few weeks ago, the rain and chilly weather seeming never ending. Chris and I always joke that a Massachusetts spring is a very rare thing, usually forgotten between the frosty winter and blazing summer. Today though, it’s just over 70 degrees and sunny, this is a Massachusetts spring day, and I suppose if we had a full season of days like this, we’d be spoiled rotten. Chris and I have no plans today, which is even more rare than a Massachusetts spring, him being extremely busy and all. We walk by the small metal ducklings and hear the sounds of children playing on them. Someday I think, Chris and I will have children, and we’ll bring them here. Thoughts like that warm my heart and cause me to squeeze Chris’ hand, he looks towards the children playing on the ducklings, his smile growing, seeming to understand what I’m thinking about. We continue our walk towards wherever our destination will be. We’re walking along the water now, full benches of happy couples and families lining the banks. I notice that most of the benches have small metal plates, many of them adorned with couples’ anniversaries and loving notes, maybe someday Chris and I will have our names on a bench like that, showing that our love with last forever. Chris and I have only been dating about eight months, and I’ve always told myself I wouldn’t get my hopes up too soon, especially not for a hot shot Hollywood actor, but I know that Chris is the man I want to spend the rest of my life with. We pass the narrow sidewalk on the banks of the water and see a grassy area without many people around. Chris pulls me towards the spot and speaks for the first time since we had entered the gardens, both of us seemingly enamored with the peaceful silence that fell between us as we walked.

“I have a surprise for you sweetheart, to apologize for being so busy recently. I wanted us to spend some quality time together today, so we are going to have a picnic.” Chris places his backpack on the ground and zips it open, pulling out a blanket and handing it to me. I’m overjoyed, I can’t remember the last time I’ve had a picnic, and having one with my favorite guy on my favorite type of day, I’m in heaven. I hold the blanket up and the ends are taken by the slight breeze, allowing me to drape it over the grass where Chris and I will sit. He begins pulling sandwiches from my favorite sandwich place out of his bag, and cold bottles of seltzer as well.

“Chris! When did you plan all of this? Thank you so much baby!” I exclaim joyfully, so filled with love and admiration for the man kneeling on the grass in front of me.

“As soon as we realized we were both free today, I figured we would take Dodger out and have an amazing day, what you deserve for being so understanding and accommodating to my crazy schedule, you shouldn’t have to be alone so often, I’m sorry.”

“Oh Chris it’s okay, you’re an actor, I understood what I was getting into, and I wouldn’t want to be with anyone else, even if their job allowed them to be home every night. Besides, me and Dodger have the most fun when you’re not around, right Dodger?” The end of my statement takes on a teasing tone as I reach out for Dodger, who has been extremely obedient, especially in the presence of sandwiches which probably smell delicious to his senses.

“Dodger, she’s lying right? C’mon buddy, don’t betray me like this, I’m your favorite, not Y/n. Buddy? come on you’re breaking my heart.” Chris feigns sadness as he tickles his beloved dog, acting very much like a teenager and not the 39 year old man he is. I laugh loudly, loving this joking side of my boyfriend.

“Alright boys I’m hungry, can we please get to eating now?”

“Yes your highness of course we can.” Chris says as Dodger barks, seeming to say yes as well. The sandwiches are delicious as always, and the seltzer is the perfect thing to cool us down on a day like this when sitting in the sun causes the slightest layer of sweat to form.

“This view is beautiful.” I say to Chris after moments of silence as we eat our lunch. I’m looking out on the water, noticing the reflection of the blue sky scattered with white clouds as well as the variety of trees and flowers the gardens are covered in.

“I gotta say baby, the view isn’t nearly as beautiful as you.” I giggle and blush at the juvenile line Chris had just pulled on me, but it works none the less, making me feel another surge of love for my boyfriend.

“Oh Chris Evans, I didn’t realize we were in middle school again.” I tease back which causes him to laugh and grab his chest, one of his most endearing quirks that he is famous for doing online. Chris pulls some treats out of his bag as Dodger has been nonstop whining for at least 30 seconds.

“Don’t worry sweetheart, Dodger isn’t the only one who’s getting a treat, besides me later of course.” I laugh at loud at this again, Chris’ goofy pick up lines making me extremely happy for some reason, I mean, they’re stupid pick up lines, why do they work? Chris pulls a box out of his bag next, where is all this stuff coming from? Then I see the logo on the top of the box.

“Chris! Did you go to Mike’s?” I hadn’t been to Mike’s Pastry in way too long, and seeing that Chris has surprised me with my favorite desserts makes this day even better, if that’s somehow possible.

“I sure did, want a cannoli?”

“Baby the day I say no to that question is the day you break up with me because I’ve lost my mind, of course I want a cannoli!” This day truly couldn’t get any better, the sweet taste of the cannoli fills my mouth, never mind, it got better. Too soon the dessert is over too, Chris lies back on the blanket and I lie my head on his strong chest, the two of us looking up at the sky.

“That cloud looks like Dodger, don’t you think so Dodge?” you say, reaching your hand down to pet the adorable dog.

“What about that one, I think it looks like a whale!” You’ve never been in a relationship with someone like Chris before, someone who makes you feel like a little kid again, looking up at the sky and finding pictures in the clouds like two eight year olds crushing on each other. Too soon my skin begins to burn just the slightest, so we have to start getting ready to leave. I help Chris pack up the supplies and we continue walking hand in hand through the rest of the public gardens. As we exit the opposite side of the park, I wonder if we have to go home now, I hope not, I don’t want this day to end any time soon.

“Newbury Street?” Chris asks me, knowing my answer already.

“Oh Mr. Evans where have you been all my life?” I say, tilting my head up to give him a quick kiss.

“Searching for you Y/n” Chris responds as you two cross the street to continue another perfect day, for every day with Chris is perfect after all.
