The Show that Forced a Worldwide Conversation

An opener and a pair of spot illustrations for a Buzzfeed News essay on how the show 13 Reasons has sparked a huge conversation about Teen Suicide and been embraced by an entire generation of teenagers but at the same time has received a high level of criticism about how it may actually encourage suicide.

Murder on Union Hill Road

A series of illustrations for a piece by Kathleen Hale on her first hand investigation into the Pike County Massacre, a series of murders that nearly wiped out the Rhoden Family in Ohio. With the intention of uncovering something unseen about the slaughter she finds herself in a community that’s all too ready to completely forget the violent rampage altogether. It’s an uncomfortable foray into rural poverty and the lines we draw between ourselves and those deemed somehow beyond the realm of justice and retribution. You can read the full story HERE

For this project I had the pleasure of being art directed by Anshuman Iddamsetty. Little did I know that it would be the last time I would work with him as he’s leaving Hazlitt for new opportunities. Needless to say, I was heartbroken at the news, but also SO grateful for his unwavering support of my art. Without his truthful gritty vision I would not be where I am today, and that’s the truth. So good luck Anshuman, we’re all rooting for you and this new chapter of your life!

And to finish this off, these five pieces have been accepted into the SOI Illustrators 59: Book and Editorial Annual. I’m very happy to be able to finally share them with you.
