HEY GUYS! Still clearing out the mini cabinets! I’ve been stepping up my mini painting game and have been trying to make space for the more display-style stuff!
I also did a hard switch from preparing for a Sea-Faring game to running a Fey-Heavy game so a few of these guys I’d been hanging onto I no longer need!
OR in the case of the red dragon, my spouse got me a BIGGER, BADDER red dragon and I don’t have room for both of them, LOL!

In order to create texture on a 2d plane one must think about value and color relation. How will colors look if they are made out of a certain material and how will that material be affected by light. Will it be matte, will it reflect, will it shine? How is the light affected by the small patterns of shapes in a texture?
This illustration of a Red Dragon from Dungeons & Dragons serves as a great example for understanding the questions of texture and how it works.

I was actually not aware until posting this and doing research on it that William Blake was commissioned to do the series of Red Dragon paintings as illustrations for the Bible. As with a lot of my previous postings, I love this one because it blends natural and realistic elements with imaginative works. I also chose it because it astounded me that it was in watercolor, which I also did not know until I looked it up. The many different faces on the Great Red Dragon are interesting to inspect as they each have a different expression and emotion they convey and ultimately evoke.
