when he’d first started singing, kihyun didn’t think he needed professional training or lessons in order to use his voice. back then, singing had only been a passing hobby, something to do in the shower to pass the time, a mere habit when he thought no one was around. in all honesty, even now, when he’s singing professionally to make a living, he still doesn’t think it’s all that important to take formal lessons, but it probably wouldn’t hurt to try and expand his vocal range and strength or learn to properly read sheet music. the latter especially important when he’s been thinking about recording his brother’s songs. getting by on guitar tabs and playing by ear isn’t going to cut it for much longer.

luckily, his ability to make friends despite his prickly and aloof personality prooves to be beneficial to him, and the fact that yoona used to be a musical theater actress makes her an easy choice. out of the goodness of her heart, she agrees to help him, and he’s grateful, considering how she always seems so busy. of course, it’s not something he’d ever admit out loud, but he likes to think she already knows anyway.

after practice with the band, he heads to his apartment to get everything ready, one of his brother’s notebooks and some water bottles out on the coffee table and not much else because he can’t really think of what else to prepare. besides that, there’s a chocolate bar because he has to thank her somehow, and he’s pretty sure that women love chocolate—not that he knows exactly what women want. when yoona arrives, he heads toward the door, hand raising up to greet her as he opens it a thankful smile at his lips. “hey, thanks for coming.”

Time is a fickle thing. It can be what brings people together, like long lost siblings, new friends, or family, and it can be what tears people apart, like relationships, stress, or life. The bonds of time are tumultuous and thin, able to be cut with the smallest of things. The bluntest of knives can be the end of something that could have been or the start of something that should have been.

Yoona had a relationship with time that was broken and unfair. She had been given chances that she had not taken, and chances she didn’t even know she had.

Yoona was very sociable and knew people who knew people. She was often invited to various social events and parties and encountered a number of people. Some she forgot easily, others remained in her memory. One such person was Wonpil. She had seen him enough times that he remained in her memories. She had felt some kind of a connection to the male but hadn’t been given the chance to discover what that connection was. He suddenly disappeared from her life and stopped hanging out with her friends. Still, she found herself wondering from time to time what happened.

For once, time seemed to be on her side. She had been out shopping and was minding her own business when she heard a voice coming from behind her. A voice that she could not forget. She smiled and turned around. ❝ Wonpil-ssi! ❞ She exclaimed, a grin spreading across her face. ❝ Where have you been? ❞

her smile, still effervescent as ever, fills him up with warmth, and memories of his uni days immediately flash into his mind, playing like a montage without the music, brief flashes of memories he hadn’t thought about in years. an involuntary chuckle leaves him as they pass through and disappear once again into the recesses of his mind as he finally manages to actually understand what she had said, rather than just letting the sound of her voice rest and linger in his ears.

“oh, you know, around,” he answers with another quiet laugh, answer as vague as can be. there’s no way he would ever tell her the reason he’d stopped hanging out with their mutual friends when she was around. barring the fact that she might be angry and upset with him, in retrospect, it had been kind of a childish thing to do and was embarrassing to admit in the first place. it wasn’t like he had harbored some deep personal feelings for her at that point; was it really worth losing a friendship over something like that?

well, there was no use dwelling in the past; he was never one to do so anyway, so he leaves it at that, only clarifying so that she doesn’t feel he’s snubbing her.

“i work at the hospital now,” he says with a nod in the general direction of where he works. he’d been in the physical therapy program back then, so he felt he should mention it. “still busking on weekends, though.” even back then, busking had been a staple in his life. “but enough about me! what about you? how have you been? you still look great, by the way.”

Yoona had come to appreciate lunch breaks since signing with Nova. Before she became a trainee she could eat whatever and whenever she wanted. Now, her diet was limited and she had set times to eat lunch. She had started getting used to things now which is why she cherished lunch breaks. With the kind of schedule she had, she would gladly take any break she could get.

Today she was finally able to have lunch with Wendy and she was, well, excited. Not only had Wendy been the first person she had met when she first signed with Nova, but she was also her and*roma favourite. Yoona was currently waiting for the idol in a nearby restaurant. It had been some time since she had seen the younger and she was excited to catch up.

Now that promotions for “High Heels” were done, Wendy has more time to mingle with the trainees and check out some new faces. Today, she was spending lunch with Yoona. She’s a bit late as it is because of school, but she hopes Yoona understands.

She discreetly enters the restaurant and immediately spots Yoona. Wendy brisk walks over, trying not to draw any attention to herself. It’s not like AND*ROMA’s a household name yet, but she still doesn’t want people thinking she’s being careless. “Sorry, I’m late, unnie,” Wendy says once she gets settled on the chair across Yoona. “My last class dismissed us later than usual.” She sighs. Being in her final year of school is tough, but she has to keep pushing if she wants that diploma by next year. “How have you been doing?”

Yoona remembered the day she moved out. It had been not long after graduating high school and she had felt a massive weight lift off her shoulders. She was free. Free from her father and free to be herself. It had been the day that her life truly began. She was independent and had to learn how to live on her own. Yoona remembered the struggle to pay pills and buy food and that’s why she always took care of her cousins. Moonbok, Jimin and Eric were all often visited by Yoona as she made sure they were eating well and taking care of themselves.

She knew that perhaps her frequent visits were a tad too much at times and that her cousins were old enough to take care of themselves (except Jimin). Yet, she couldn’t stop herself from worrying. If she wasn’t at home, she was at one of her cousins’ house. Today was Eric’s turn. She had warned him prior to allow him to hide anything he didn’t want her seeing. She held a few bags of groceries in her hands as she walks towards Eric’s apartment.

She had a skip in her step as she hummed a song to herself. She was in a good mood, excited to see her cousin. While Moonbok and Jimin were her cousins on her father’s side, Eric was from her mother’s side. It was a different side of the family. Her cousins lived with roommates much like she did and she would always make sure to check if they were home so she could bring extra. When she finally arrived she called her cousin through the door. ❝ Eric. Noona’s here. ❞

ever since eric had moved out he’d felt, in a way, lighter. despite the constant worry regarding money he’s enjoying living away from his mom, doing what he wants, when he wants. however, that doesn’t mean he’s free from family members worrying about him. yoona’s been coming over regularly with food to check on him and make sure he isn’t starving or living in a pile of his own filth. so far, he’s managed to keep on top of cleaning and laundry, but cooking has been quick, bland meals of rice, veggies and eggs, since he can’t often afford meat.

in all honesty, eric looks forward to yoona’s visits, hoping she’ll bring something tasty every time. he’s been in good spirits all day, anticipating her visit, so as the time nears for her to arrive he does one last check of the apartment to make sure there’s nothing left out (like a rogue pair of underwear dropped from the laundry) that he’d hate for her to see. there isn’t really much for him to hide, though he does find a raunchy magazine that must belong to his roommate sitting out in the living room and huffs as he slides it under his roommates door.

most people probably wouldn’t want their cousins coming to check on them all the time and treating them as though they couldn’t look after themselves, but eric knows yoona does it out of concern and love, and honestly, as he’d never experienced this level of care from anyone, not even his own mom before, he more than appreciated it. so, when he hears her call through the door he doesn’t hesitate to skid along the hallway in his socks to the front door and swing it open wide with a grin. “hi! did you bring food?!” he asks, only realising a second too late how that might come off as rude to ask first thing.
