We moved from house to house a lot when I was a kid so houses never felt like homes. Instead I’ve always found home in people, like my friends and family. In college my best friend Chris and I used to always hang out at his place, where I’d drop by more or less unannounced, and we’d l watch movies, talk, make art, and sometimes even work on school work I felt a real sense of home and a sense of belonging when I would visit Chris. I got the same sense of home when I visited Chris and his wife Renee in October in their relatively new place in Maui. Chris and Renee were gracious and wonderful both in allowing me to stay in their guest room and showing me all of the places on the island that were special to them. I made this piece as a “thank you” to them for letting me stay at their place and really making me feel at home.
