PS, youth of today: you’ll be saying the same damn thing about art from this time before too long, for good or for ill. Terminology will, in fact, change. Definitions will, in fact, shift. It always does, they always do.
PPS, it is pretty much impossible to overstate how life-alteringly important this movie was to kids who didn’t conform to standard expectations of gender and sexuality, back in the day. Especially when back in the day was the mid-to-late 1980s, when the only queers you saw on TV were neutered AIDS tragedies, Bowie was playing straight, and even Elton John was married to a woman, and midnight showing of RHPS were pretty much the only place that felt like home. It was mental life raft for a lot of people.
I was one of them.

If any of you are fans of Rocky Horror Picture Show I highly recommend the netflix series “Once Upon a Time, Happily Never After”. Its camp, sexual, funny, artistic, makes sense but also doesn’t, and is a jukebox musical!!!! Its in Spanish bc its from Mexican and Spaniard actors (along with Sebastian Yatra who is Colombian). Main characters aren’t queer but there are queer characters!!! (And not just the evil ones, there’s various). Its super fucking good, like I started it to kill time and I ended up loving it!!!!!!! Its not getting the attention it deserves because its all hispanic actors, and those series have to work hard to get attention. Money Heist and Elite made it bc of the trama, but this series is super camp so without tons of ads (which they didn’t have) it didn’t catch people’s attention. Is also one season only and it has a conclusive ending, so I don’t think they are planning on a second one, but that makes the watch a lot better bc its like a long movie basically!!!
I really recommend it!! I get strong rocky vibes for sure. And there’s a lot of ass lmao. Just like rocky, perhaps not a show to watch amongst family if sexual scenes make you uncomfortable. But the sexual of it is comedy, not as much as Elite. So its not super bad or 24/7.
And the actors are also really fucking good AND good singers.
