what movie do y’all know front to back like it doesn’t even have to necessarily be Good,, it’s just something you’ve seen so many times that the dialogue is printed into the very core of your being

I’m a professional actor and also very gay so what I’m saying is that it’s Rocky Horror Picture Show

I felt so robbed and so cheated by the universe when I couldn’t listen to Rocky Horror. It was one of my ex’s favorite things in the whole world which was perfect because it was one of myfavorite things in the whole world; after we broke up, any mention of it would have me in tears within the minute. And I felt robbed. Because goddamn it, that was mine. It belonged to me.

Yesterday, I watched this video here and felt nothing but pure queer joy. Next weekend, I’m watching a proshot of this production with my roommates.

I’m planning on a whole post just about Oliver Thornton and Rocky Horror later, but for now please enjoy, and revel in this moment with me!

rocky horror is the worst and is also transmisogynistic can we please finally get over this shit movie

ok but like the writer is transgender nonbinary and the language used in the play was the preferred language by trans people of that time can we not deny parts of our history because we’ve evolved since then thanks

So fucking much this.

PS, youth of today: you’ll be saying the same damn thing about art from this time before too long, for good or for ill. Terminology will, in fact, change. Definitions will, in fact, shift. It always does, they always do.

PPS, it is pretty much impossible to overstate how life-alteringly important this movie was to kids who didn’t conform to standard expectations of gender and sexuality, back in the day. Especially when back in the day was the mid-to-late 1980s, when the only queers you saw on TV were neutered AIDS tragedies, Bowie was playing straight, and even Elton John was married to a woman, and midnight showing of RHPS were pretty much the only place that felt like home. It was mental life raft for a lot of people.

I was one of them.

#the queer youth of today has forgotten all its history and is spitting on its ancestors and i hate it (via@gaythreats)

beautifully phrased

RHPS kept a lot of us alive.

Mentally, yes, but also literally. We found community and passed resources, we found roommates and bought each other post-show food at diners. It was a way to network in places where there weren’t Queer Centers.

I’m not saying the show doesn’t have its issues. It does, and the things which are keeping you alive? They have issues, too. Nothing we make is perfect.

Someday the things you hold precious will show their age, and you can then rejoice in that, because that will mean we know more and we’re doing better.

I’d argue that RHPC is still important and absolutely boundary pushing to this day. We straight up do not have nearly enough of this energy anymore. RHPC said “You think I’m a villain? You think I’m a murder rapist transvestite? Well, honey, it’s fun when I do it.”
We straight up need this energy of celebrating queer villany and queer evil and making it fun, because that, too, is an important kind of reclamation. This is a story about a vanilla straight seeming couple being involved in filth and degeneracy and horror and coming out queer and vibrant (as much as the times allowed for that story). It’s “yes, you should be afraid that we’ll turn your children against you and you should believe that we are powerful and will not hesitate to fuck shit up.”
And that is an open defiance to everything pushing down on us. That is what makes RHCP important, not the fact that it had Tim Curry in sexy stockings. It exists to spit back at the people spitting in our mouths when we ask for water. And in a sea of good representation it’s important that we don’t forget to embrace reclamations of bad representation. And that we realize that a queer person embracing queerphobic stereotypes and making them an identity is in no way the same as a straight person using them to defame us.

I believe it was Paul Gadzikowsky (@heroofthreefaces) who said it:

How can you reach the stars if you’re constantly tearing down the giants whose shoulders you’re standing on?

Haven’t done anything cosplay related but I did try out Frank N Furter makeup the other night.

I spent like an hour on the line art only to decide I hated it and went back to the sketch oops

This outrageously priced (and hideous) dress showed up in my FB feed.

Very excited to learn that my hotel is right down the street from the theater Transylvanian Nipple Productions performs at! I will definitely be attending Friday night [:

Also, if anyone knows of any places to check out in Philadelphia, please let me know!

Keep Calm And Rocky On

~A

I’ve been super busy so have been very lazy with my blog, but I am determined to update!

After fall break we had a pretty lazy week or so, but we went to the Rocky Horror Picture Show and had Halloween to look forward to. It’s cool as its considered a much bigger deal here and everyone gets really excited. We went on a “proper” night out which was fun to do, feels like so long since I’ve been out, it was definitely relaxing. Everyone was dressed up in really cool outfits, but I spent half the night trying to sneakily get a picture with a random guy dressed as Tim Tebow! (First is us just before Rocky Horror and the others are from Halloween)

As is becoming normal, the few weeks were very sport filled! Firstly, we went to our first basketball game. My friend Shannon loves it so much she decided we must get there over 3 hours early, although, of course, nobody else joined the queue for another 2 hours. We WERE very early but we had fun waiting around and it was still really warm outside. The game was awesome! We won (unlike in our football) and I just really enjoyed watching such a fast-paced game!

The next day was the football game against Missouri which was crazy and so much fun. As hinted we’ve been doing pretty badly recently (actually since this game the Coach Dooley has been fired), but they’re still so enjoyable to watch. I know I say this every time but this one was probably my favourite. It ended on a draw and went into four overtimes (!) until finally, we lost. It really is sad when we lose, especially when its so close as everyone takes it so badly. Athletics is such a huge deal here and theres so much pressure, I truly do feel sorry for the die-hard fans and the coaches/players!

This past Thursday we went to a Barn Dance which was SO much fun. Jade had met a few girls who went on exchange last semester to Swansea, so they arranged for us all to get together and go dance! It was so cool, everyone was dressed up and the music was ‘real country’ and you had to do 'real country’ dancing! My stomach hurt from laughing so much and the girls were so lovely and friendly.

Literally about 15 minutes before we were leaving for the Barn Dance I went over to Lauren, Michaela and Shannon’s apartment and they had a spontaneous idea to go to Chicago the next day! Lauren and Annabelle had, at the last minute, been invited to a conference of Religious Studies in Chicago but assumed they would be unable to go. Shannon and Michaela decided we should all go - they go to the conference and the three of us sightsee - and make a roadtrip out of it! We set off on Friday night (its a 9 hour journey), and drove overnight. We got there at about 8am and, as luck would have it, our hotel upgraded us AND let us check in straight away! After a few hours of sleep we set off to shop and get lunch, and then to visit “the Bean” which is SO cool (you can see the whole skyline in it) and have a walk around the city.

After a few hours we went back to the hotel for a “10 minute siesta” and found ourselves waking up three hours later! But we went and watched the Festival of Lights Parade which we were super lucky to be in town for, although we couldn’t see too much and lots of women kept fighting in the crowds!

After this we were SO tired so got Starbucks and went back to watch the next football game in bed (you can take the girls out of Tennessee, but you can’t take the Tennessee out of the girls!). Guess what? We lost, and then the coach was fired the next day! Sad times. The next day we were leaving at around 3pm, so we got up late had lunch and made our way over to Lake Michigan, which is absolutely beautiful. It was a perfect sunny-winters day, so the sky was lovely and its so true that the lake is the most amazing colour.

We then did a little souvenir shopping and went to go and reunite with Lauren and Annabelle and set off home. The journey was long again, and we did get a little lost in Kentucky but we managed to stumble across an Abraham Lincoln memorial and we got home in the end! Singing Rocky Top those last few miles, of course!

Also, heres me 'Tebowing’ outside a Mobile Chapel at a service station in Indiana… Never though I would type those words!

Hello everyone! I’ve been off the blog for a while but after traveling quite literally all over the world, I am officially back!
I’m pleased to say that Rocky Horror Saved My Life has now reached $30,000 in its production campaign! While this is an impressive feat, they still have to gain a little under $20,000 in about 29 days and we cannot do this without you!
So print out the image above and take a photo holding it to show your support for this incredible project! Or, just simply share the image above to generate even more buzz online! Post it on your Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, etc. and be sure to continue spreading the word to friends, family, fellow Rocky Horror fanatics, your local RHPS cast, anyone at all!
Send any pictures or your own personal stories on how Rocky Horror has affected your lives to [email protected]

Let’s do this guys, they cannot make this happen without your support and help.

Going to Rocky Horror is probably my favorite pastime. I just love letting everyone see what a little slut I am.
