Even When I’m Gone – Nicole Fiorina

“Close your eyes. If reality becomes unbearable, close your eyes. We were made with an imagination.”

I keep closing my eyes but it’s not working… I’m still done with Even When I’m Gone, I’m still and emotional mess and book three is still not out.

If you think book one was an emotional roller coaster this one was like one of those free fall rides where you are heading upwards and you know all the…

So I’ve finished chapter three! I’m really happy to be making so much progress. Lately I’ve been having more depressive moods but the fact I’m making so much progress is definitely a positive in my life. Also, if anyone’s curious, college is going well too!

August Word Court Goal: 10,000

I’ve finished chapter two! Also, I’m now in college, which is so exciting, and while I don’t have as much free time as I used to, I have a schedule again, which makes me much more confident in my ability to get shit done, so yay!

Alright I finished it. The story ends so abruptly after a battle with the sheriff and his goons where he is defeated. Then Christopher’s mom shows up and everyone knows he’s actually Lord Saxton (Stuart the hunchback)s 1 paragraph of mush then the end. No epilogue or anything. Seriously seems like she got tired of writing and was like that’s close enough.

Still as ridiculous as the premise was I enjoyed all the emotional conflict and turmoil. Will buy for the sheer audacity of making me like this. Lol.

This was an incredible journey, thank you for sharing!! I may have to find this one to read as well.

kellyn1604:

Jesus Christ, you guys.

Alright if Gaslight McGee was the worst I have no idea what on earth Christopher Seton is. Granted, he has not taken Erienne yet and has been mostly a gentlemen although he does love teasing and disconcerting her.

However, he is now pretended to not only be a burnt up hunchbackish husband wearing a leather mask that I can only picture as gimp suit-esque even though I’m sure that’s not what the author was going for but now he’s riding around at midnight pretending to be the ghost of his brother who died in a fire to catch the bastards that started it. Get some therapy, man.

The only plus is Erienne is terrified of her new husband which makes me love this story. But damn, if she isn’t going to be hella pissed when she finds out the man she is secretly lusting after is actually her husband and this whole song and pony dance was him (I guess) teaching her a lesson?

Oh and any time she leaves the house Christopher Seton is there offering to deflect her and set her up as his mistress. What the fuck, dude?

Also, I just realized I’m almost halfway into this story and there has yet to be any sex. Who are you anymore Kathleen E. Woodiwiss? It’s like I don’t even know you. Lol.

He is trying to seduce his own wife, but as someone else??????

This intrigues me!

This is what happens when you’re crossing all of life’s t’s and dotting its i’s and then everything you thought was put together falls apart. Allison has everything, a well paying job that she’s good at, a fiance, a few best friends doubling as her bridesmaids in the upcoming wedding- and everything is toppled over in one day.

Charming Falls Apart’s best quality? These are real characters. They are built on personality, insecurities, faults, and growth. I am blown away by the characters jumping off of the pages through their personalities, actions, and realistic lives. Every time Allison made a mature decision, reacted to a completely human emotion, or even stopped herself from jumping right into something without thought, it was a win for the real-life woman reading this novel after reading countless characters that don’t feel down on Earth.

Allison’s entire life falls apart in one fell swoop and this story has a natural rhythm as she regains her confidence, both professionally and socially. While she reads self-help books you bear witness to self-reflection and growth, and the changes a person can make to better their life at any age.

The romantic progression was another great thing to read. She meets Eric by chance in a coffee shop that he owns and she can’t help but keep coming back. While at first she’s too freshly burned to even consider it, she gains back a piece of herself in her conversations with Eric- along with a reoccurring blush across her cheeks. The romance didn’t feel forced, which was probably the best part. There were times where I found myself smiling while reading because Eric comes across as charming while he makes jokes and teases Allison.

This was a breath of fresh air as far as romance novels, I really enjoyed the maturity of it and the characters. People who enjoyed Evvie Drake Starts Over would also enjoy this novel. Thank you to Edelweiss, Angela Terry, and SparkPress for the pleasure of reading this review copy.

I have so many feelings about this book, but they are all important. Coming from someone who isn’t that enamored with most romance novels, this was a beautiful love story.

The book tells the story of two seventeen-year-olds in 1953 Iran who fall in love over the summer through a stationery shop and their bookish love. The romance builds in a shy, slow, realistic pace. Kamali does a good job of writing the way that Roya is consumed slowly by her love of Bahman. With many supporting characters, many very supportive while a few are completely against their relationship, they love each other regardless of the opinions of others. One very important factor incorporated into this book is the political climate of Iran in the 50’s. Bahman is an activist and this plays a large role in some of the hurdles in the first half of the book.

When Bahman and his parents suddenly disappear and no one can find them, they carry on through only their letters to one another. Until they write making plans of eloping and Bahman never shows up. Confused and concerned, Roya can only wait for word on her fiance- until she finally gets it from the future mother-in-law that never liked her and always wanted better for her son. This is the pivotal point where everything changes and their course is set to not cross paths again for sixty years.

Right from the beginning, there is an amazing incorporation of Iranian customs and culture, especially those that involve food, sprinkled throughout the story-line. While many romance novels tend to exclude political climates while writing about an all-consuming romance, this one highlights the effect that it can have on the normal lives of people. This was a romance novel that felt realistic. It never felt rushed or thrown together, and the emotions were there. When Roya’s heart was breaking over Bahman’s engagement to someone else, so was mine.

Without spoiling the ending, this was the most heartbreaking part of the novel. We find out the real reason behind everything that happened sixty years ago and we discover everything that’s happened since then. The book features a multitude of themes, love, culture, family, undiagnosed mental health problems, heartbreak and moving forward, and so many other things can be picked from this book. I put this book off for so long because it didn’t sound like something I would enjoy, and I ended up loving it. I would highly recommend this.
