Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986) / Russian Doll(2019-)
I will watch Russian Doll season 2 and I’m excited to see what they did with it although I do not think this was a show that necessarily needed a second season! As a standalone miniseries it was excellent, and there’s not much they can do (in my opinion anyway) to improve it. To me, it’s like the Queen’s Gambit - the story has been told; you could add to it, but you don’t have to in order to make it satisfying/fulfilling. It’s already interesting and unique.
Anyway I saw a post a long time ago about how not everything needs a sequel and sometimes we should just leave well enough alone, and it’s so true!
Ok it made me CRY and it was about self-love and also literally becoming your mother and letting go of things and also going back in time to get your inheritance back from the Nazis who stole it and it was good! I stand by that not everything needs a sequel. But also they should do Season 3 asap
Russian doll put “I thought if I worked hard enough, if I kept putting the time in, if I kept my head down, you know, did everything right that this aching gnawing feeling of being an absolute failure would just go away” and “I look at you now, chasing down death at every corner and, sweetheart, where is that gorgeous piece of you pushing to be a part of this world” in back to back scenes
did they want me to cry
Russian doll s1 was basically about how ignoring trauma or prev. abuse and stuff like that will make your life hell. Isolating and suppressing it all will drown you.
While Russian doll s2 was definitely about generational trauma and wealth and how you need to choose you to heal + processing grief is very important to heal. Also you can’t fix everything yourself. You can’t know everything either and that’sokay.

So this week has been pretty chaotic. We move out of our office in 2 weeks and I’ve been helping coordinate that and with the other departments on my floor leaving at the same time (our building is being renovated) it’s a mishmash of meetings, packing, chatting with coworkers about how weird it is to have our departments separated for the next year. Anyhoo, because of all this, I haven’t been…
Pop Culture Brief – February 2019
General BriefingsIt’s the end of February already and I am so ready for spring, except there is still snow on the ground and I hate it. BUT, the sun is out, I’m no longer leaving for work in the dark and coming home in the dark, and I’ve finally been able to wear the sunglasses I bought myself for Christmas, so not all bad!
Pissbaby man trolls everywhere are probably weeping into their…
This week has been a garbage week of garbage things happening and it’s all just piling up and creating a giant garbage mountain and it’s all a bit much and I’d like it to please stop. BUT, since that isn’t how the universe works, and it’s snowing today (again) covering all that garbage in a layer of white nonsense, which is just adding to my irritation… here’s the list of shit I read this week.
