Evening Path

Looking out the school window at the orange sky,
I noticed that my shadow grew just a little bit longer from yesterday
In the parking lot, I saw a cat all laid back and yawning
When I suddenly smelled something really good
Somewhere, someone was making food

The crows cawed
In unison
The sound of the evening cicadas
Blended together

Turning my back to the sunset’s sparkle,
I’ll hum a tune and walk home the usual way,
Walking over shadows
Before the day ends

The sunset’s sparkle really is pretty
It looks a little different from when I was little
Maybe the place that I remember
Is still there even now

The cold wind blows
As the summer days get farther away
Even now, I remember
What I said when I was little
Even now, I still think
That it’s just as “pretty” as it was that day

When I realized I was chasing after
The silently sinking orange light,
The crows were gone

Just as the sparkle of the sunset is starting to disappear,
The pretty sparkling moon is showing up
I’ll make sure to remember this
And start walking again

The chirps of the cicadas are getting quieter
Even the daylight is getting shorter
I wanna treasure this small amount of time
Before the completely sets
