Marilyn Monroe photographed by Sam Shaw on the Miller farm in Amagansett, Long Island, NY, during the spring of 1957. She described this time in her life as revitalizing and one in which she was happily settling down as Mrs. Arthur Miller.
Her pregnancy was determined to be ectopic after she was rushed to the hospital after a collapse at this home. The fetus was terminated in order to save her life; given the estimated time she was pregnant, it is likely she was very early during these photographs. Shaw photographed the couple in June and some of these appeared in Look’s October issue.

Marilyn Monroe and Sam Shaw behind the scenes of The Seven Year Itch in 1954. The two first met in 1951 and were good friends up until her death, though he last photographed her in 1957. He once spoke against the rumors of her multiple affairs, “If Marilyn slept with every guy that claims he was with her, she would have never had time to make any movies.”
