Amidst a runway show featuring a setting of hanging flora, the Spring/Summer 2014 collection from Dior similarly embraced the floral theme whether it was quite literal with prints or more abstract with shape. The spring preview implemented emblem decorations which adorned the iconic Dior “Bar” jacket. Decoration was a main theme of the show, whether with bold prints or dresses embellished with colorful sayings. For the final, models walked in black suiting decorated with kaleidoscopic patterns or silver jacquard dresses.

Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing was in a 90s mood for the French fashion house’s Spring/Summer 2014 collection. Jackets with boxy shoulders, quilted separates and skirts with flouncy hems that are either ruffle or feather-embellished gave a nod to Chanel during the 90s. Prints for the season embrace gingham and houndstooth motifs while the color palette is steeped in monochrome as well as pastel blue and pinks. The overall trend is highlighted with slinky pinstripes, sparkling squares or sleek leather.

For his eponymous label’s Spring/Summer 2014 collection, British designer Gareth Pugh showcased his signature gothic style with a science-fiction twist. The silhouettes are sculptural, clinging onto the body with winged shoulders or high necklines for a dramatic effect. The color palette for the new season offers black, white, grey, silver and a sampling of turquoise. In addition to the alien-esque looks, Pugh also delivered more pared down pieces such as wide-legged trousers or slinky gowns fit for evening wear. Head gear is almost a requirement for a Pugh runway show at this point, and for spring, the headpiece in question is made of ostrich feathers.

Dries van Noten delivered his trademark romanticism with an opulent refinement for his Spring/Summer 2014 collection. The Belgian designer presented dreamy floral prints and relaxed silhouettes featuring a strong theme of gold ranging from metallic vests to more subtle accents like gold pleats. Skirts decorated with ruffles add some volume to the spring season as well as large floral-shaped ornaments in rushed silk and gold plisse. Accessories for the new season include retro, circular-shaped frames and embroidered bags with tribal details.

The Spring/Summer 2014 collection from Anthony Vaccarello’s eponymous label displayed the Belgian designer’s body conscious designs that were not afraid to show a little, or a lot of skin. A color palette of mostly black with pops of white or red revealed dresses and skirts in slinky silhouettes. The designs were embellished with large and round silver gems which either accented cut-away swimsuits or completely decorated skirts with futuristic, V-shaped hemlines. Despite all the show of skin, there were some more covered-up elements like cropped jackets in leather and slouchy trousers.

Donatella Versace was in a rock'n'roll mood for Versace’s Spring/Summer 2014 show. The catwalk opened with a selection of denim looks ranging from clingy skirts to sculpted jackets. Then the Versace woman embraced the sweet side of spring with pleated dresses in pastel hues of lavender, yellow and sky blue. The looks still had a rock edge though; paired with cropped moto jackets and zipper details. Sexy gowns featuring high slits and skin-baring cutouts closed the show in feminine sheer and lace.

Leisure was key for Michael Kors’ Spring/Summer 2014 collection. The Kors woman looks ready for summer in a section of printed swimsuits featuring bandeau bikini tops, menswear inspired shirts and wide-legged pants perfect for leisurely strolls down the beach. There is also a romantic element to the spring collection with the inclusion of light and sheer linen dresses as well as a flower print which decorated dresses, skirts and tops in shades of blue, forest green and earthy brown. Structure is added to the feminine showcase with leather belts or tops in camel hues.

Narciso Rodriguez is bringing sexy back for Spring/Summer 2014. With sharply cut miniskirts and shorts paired with cropped tops, it was a more skin-baring approach from the designer. But it’s in the details for the designer. Draped backs added drama to dresses, while the texture of embellished tops resembled the surface of a full moon.
After the announcement that the photographer for the Pirelli Calendar 2015 is Steven Meisel, many were those who wondered which were the gorgeous model that posed for its pages.
