It had been a night similar to ones in the past, you had decided to take a walk to try to cool your nerves, you had been exchanging texts with your friends all day but something had felt… Off and naturally your mind decided to play it up and make things worse for you.
So, you decided to take a stroll along the beach, the sound of the waves crashing against the shore relaxed you and seemed to take your worries away as you watched along the coastline for anything that might catch your interest.
Instead of finding a conch shell, or even just a giant crab like you usually did, this time you had found a fur coat.
You had picked it up with interest, glancing around for the owner but finding none. The coat looked like a seal, rather than leaving it out here for someone else to snatch up and sell, you decided to take it back to your home with you. That way you could turn it into the lifeguard’s lost and found bin the following day once it was out.
However, that opportunity never came as the next morning had brought you some company. Loud knocking could be heard throughout your house and you rushed to get ready for the day since you were just getting out of bed. “I’m coming!” You called out to your unknown visitor.
When you got to the door, you weren’t expecting someone to be towering over you, or someone so stunning.
“You… found my coat?” He asked, almost hesitantly. “I don’t think I’m worthy of someone so beautiful.” He cooed softly.
You blinked once, then twice, then asked him what he had meant by that.
“Well, Selkie are known for their coats… and whoever finds it, that’s who the Selkie is married to, is the short version of it.” Lucien explained to you.
Oh. So you were married now because you found his fur coat?
Living with Lucien was a bit hard at first, adjusting to having another person in your space all the time. But he made things easy for you, he was funny, making you laugh even when you felt down which made you feel better in the end.
He is in tune with you, he can sense when you’re down or when your anxiety is acting up, and in these moments he will offer to go for a walk with you. You always come home with something from the walks with him, whether it’s a pretty shell or some random item someone lost, you make a small decorative box, one for the shells and one for the tiny toys you find. Your favorite being a yellow dinosaur with green polka dots that he had found. It made both of you laugh when he had found it and made a joke about finding a fossil.
The fresh salty air made you exhale with a smile painting your features, Lucien had run up ahead, his nearly white hair gleaming in the sunlight. You had pulled out your phone, managing to snag a picture of him like that, he looked so free in the moment and briefly you had wondered if you were tying him to you. You had given his coat back once he had said that it was his, but he wanted to remain beside you instead. All that worry had disappeared once he had turned around and offered you the biggest smile possible.
“Are you coming or what?” He teased, a laugh coming from you as you followed after him, watching him comb through the piles of shells, picking out whatever he thought would be of interest until he held up a small plastic toy for you. This time it was shaped like a purple seahorse. You shook your head, tucking it away into one of the buckets you carried with you at all times when you went for walks like this.
After an hour or so, he had turned back to you. The sun was setting since you had decided to go out for a late walk, he was starting to look tired. Now that he had an actual home to live in, he didn’t have to worry about a lot of things anymore, which made it easy for him to simply focus on you. He couldn’t have picked a better partner for himself.
“Are you ready to go home?” He asked, reaching his hand out towards you for you to take.
“If you are, then I am.” You responded, making your way back to the home you two shared now.
