2021 Summary of Art
I didn’t think I would be able to produce at least one design a month for the whole year and I’m really satisfied. Not all of them live up to my expectations but I’ll continue to draw my favorite characters to have fun and without stress.
Another little gift for a dear friend. Years ago we roleplayed England and Seychelles from Hetalia and we miss these two lovebirds so much!

A Paradise Drowning in Trash
This past semester I got to be part of the ETH transdisciplinary case study, investigating solid waste management on the island of Seychelles. This small island developing state is facing an immense challenge with its trash: almost exclusively relying on landfilling the island is literally filling up. Filling up - in trash. Further, current landfills are absolutely ill-equipped for the amount and types of material deposited; there is currently no capacity for leachate treatment. With various kinds of hazardous materials such as chemical residues, pharmaceutical products, asbestos etc. entering the landfill, the lack of proper lining at Providence I (one of the two main landfills) represents an incredible risk for groundwater contamination.

Huge congratulations to Peng Chen, Chinese American, and Michelle Morgan, Kenyan, on their recent wedding held in the Seychelles, an island country off the coast of Africa! Peng is a globetrotting entrepreneur who is currently the managing director and co-founder of the popular Alchemist restaurant in Nairobi, Kenya, and Michelle is formerly one of the top business news television anchors in Kenya. She has also been the television host for several sporting events in Africa and both Peng and Michelle are huge motorbike participants and fans. They met by chance in Kenya in 2013, were engaged in 2015 and just tied the knot after 6 years together in 2019! We wish them a lifetime of joy and happiness with eternal blessings!

For a lot of its colonial history, Seychelles was lumped together (by the British) with Mauritius, at least in terms of governance (the French, though, were the first to lay claim - Captain Morphey named the largest of the islands after Viscount Jean Moreau de Séchelles, later anglicized as Seychelles [not theSeychelles, as you may have heard at some or most points in your life…]). Not until 1903 did Seychelles become a separate crown colony, and later gained independence as a republic within the Commonwealth in 1976. The African sovereign nation with the smallest population, but also the African sovereign nation with the highest nominal per capita GDP, Seychelles is a group of 115 islands, total land area of about 177 square miles, and much of the nation’s economy is tourist-based (including another of this stamp enthusiast’s enthusiasms - DIVING).
